BellSouth said Monday that it began testing a powerful wireless network it believes can help bridge the nation's digital divide.
The telephone and broadband provider will use "fixed wireless" equipment to deliver high-speed Web access to 100 customers in Daytona, Fla., for the next three months, according to a BellSouth representative. The trial run is a crucial step before a full-scale launch

Very interesting indeed. Maybe Rking can keep an eye on this for us.

Bell South has been offering DSL in parts of Vero Beach for about 18 months now. The CO is about 300 feet from my house, so I am sure I could probably do quite well if I hooked up with them. Since I still have Starband and am a dealer for them, I get dealer rates ($39/mo.) and I can also test the system if a customer calls with problems, and so will probably keep them. I have a small apartment attached to my house here and the renter has DSL. When time permits I will check to see what speeds he is getting. There is also a small outfit here offering wireless access. They are (or at least were a year ago) quite expensive. I have switched a couple of them over to Starband because of cost. I will watch to see if the BS wireless service ever appears near here.
