View Full Version : Can retailers do referral deals?
A friend of mine wants DIRECTV and another wants credit for referring him. The problem is that friend #1 won't allow Ironwood on his property. Can he swing a referral deal through an established DIRECTV retailer?

You are supposed to call a different number when you are being referred, so I would think that it can't be set up through an independant dealer. I don't know for certain though, harsh.

Why would he leave the "discriminating" HD provider, who only offers the "best" HD channels? DirecTV just offers all of them, which is horrible.
That's disappointing.
I guess if you're going to cut TiVo out to spite your customers, you might as well cut out the retail promotions to spite what's left of your retailers.

They have never offered referral promotions through retailers.

For someone who seems intent on paying for an independent installation, $50 (especially spread over 5 billing periods) doesn't seem like much to sweat over - and he could just give his buddy the $50 himself.
Anyway, he could buy the dish and have his installer install everything but the receivers, call the special number and do the referral thing following their rules, then all the Ironwood guy would need to do is connect the boxes. It would be hard for him to screw that up.

So he would finally know something about what he posts?
Where is the fun in that?
Do you know that of Harsh's last 30 posts, 28 are in a DirecTV forum.

I'm going to have to tell him to forfeit the referral deal and be happy that he's getting it done right the first time. That doesn't happen very often around here.
Provider envy??? !rollingWhat's to envy?
Is it the hinky DVRs?
Is it being hogtied into an 18-24 month commitment?
Is it the lack of a dealer referral program (it seems a big slap in the face of outfits that bring long-term customers to the table)?
Is it the lack of a HD CBS LIL?
It is the lack of an OTA solution (the only stocking retailer of DIRECTV around here is Costco and they are selling H21s and HR21s now).
Programming-wise, DIRECTV seems to be a great fit for him save missing CBS sports.
Hardware-wise, policy-wise and entry-cost-wise, not so much.
