When is E* going to get serious about DishOnline? What I mean by this is offering first run movies in HD. Do they not realize what kind of potential this has?

They are apparently still working out the bugs. The better movies are on Movies on Demand. Everything is still in SD at this point.

Obviously, the bandwidth required for HD is a lot greater than SD. Will users be willing to wait for hours to begin watching the HD show they ordered? Personally, I see DishOnline as more of an instant gratification sort of purchase.

That is a very valid point. I just can't make myself pay for an SD movie at this point. They look so bad on my Samsung plasma. How long would it take to download an HD movie over a 3mb connection?

Xbox-Live's Video Marketplace has had HD movie downloads available for months now. I haven't rented one yet because of the DRM and having only 24 hours from the time I start to view it before it expires.
But I have downloaded some HD TV episodes (Heroes Ep. 1 for example) and it didn't take that long. I don't remember exactly how long, but I remember being pleased that it was as fast as it was. Granted, I do have a 6mbps connection.

Dish On Demand has its issues as well. Clicked on that and it crashed the receiver last night.

Hope you all don't mind the bump.
Same thing here (DishOnline locking up the receiver). I do notice that it's not picking up the DNS settings from my router (sets the first as the gateway, leaves the 2nd slot blank). It does get a valid IP address, though.
My connection is: Receiver <--> WDS bridge ~~ Gateway
Just curious to know if any other configuration might work.

Sad to say, the 24 hour limit is industry standard for PPV content. I doubt that will change.
Frankly, given the influence of programs like NetFlix and BBOnline, I'm surprised the DBS and cable operators have not eased up on the restrictions regarding PPV services. I suspect this content is delivered on rather high-cost and archaic platforms. </my 2 cents>
