Someone has a 722 (new in box) for sale; how can I make sure it is a legitimate unit and Dish will activate it?
Thank you.
Jim
Jim,
Get the R00 and S number from the seller and call DISH and ask them to check them. If the seller won't give them to you it is a sure sign that something is not right about the sale.

Ask the seller for the R (receiver) and S (smartcard) numbers. They will be on the white labels on the side of the box, in a format of R00 xxxx xxxx-xx and S19 xxxx xxxx -xx.
Then call DISH, they will be happy to look up the receiver and let you know if it is clear to activate.
As Bill said, if the seller won't provide the numbers, you're not interested. There's no reason not to provide them.

Thank you, Bill and Ken; that's exactly the info I was looking for.

I was looking at a second hand receiver and 500 pan at a yard sale once. The lady said the account was in good standing. I called dish and they told me they would not activate that receiver because there was an outstanding balance against it. She didn't think it was funny when I called her lie and told her not to try to sell it to anyone else.
