Last I heard about this was about 2 years ago. Does anyone know if it's still on track?

I heard nothing lately. I hope it's still on track. I did hear that George Lucas wanted to make the last three movies of the series. I hope the original cast will be used.

I heard that he wanted to make a series in between Revenge and A New Hope then I think he changed his mind and decided on a Cartoon series instead same time line.

Last I heard the live action show is still being planned as well as a CGI cartoon. I saw some photos from some preliminary CGI work for the cartoon and it looks a lot like the Clone Wars cartoon, but done in CGI. Some characters are a little different, but it kind of followed the same style.
Here's the Wiki on it ...

Anthony Daniels is back, I see. :)

He already did. They're called Episodes I, II, and III. For the umpteenth time, folks: George Lucas did not have any intention to produce a movie or trilogy that takes place after Episode VI, Return of the Jedi.

yeah somewhere along the line somehow an urban legend got started that there were supposed to be three movie trilogies. This is despite repeated interviews w/ Lucas himself saying that the movies were supposed to be about the life of Anakin Skywalker and that the story begins where we meet him on Tatooine in Ep I and ends when he dies in Ep 6. I remember hearing the 9 movie rumor back in the early 80's, so it's been kicking around awhile and it seems it refuses to die!

There are even supposed script treatments for the other three movies, where clones of young Luke fight clones of young Vader. Probably all horse hockey.

The DelRey novels chronicle everything that happened from the day after Return of the Jedi. Currently, the novels take place about 35-45 years after Return of the Jedi. Check them out, they take the movies further then anything Lucas ever intended.

I've read some of these. Keep in mind that they would not have been possible without Lucas's approval. George approved only of a certain line of novels because he didn't want people going way off into a tangent.

Which is wise considering what a mess Star Trek books became.
