Howdy everyone!;-)

I looked around and found some interesting information about tversity and wmp11 and nero. I can not get any of them to work... I have installed tversity 9.11.03. I have tried setting the media playback device to auto and xbox. I can not get it to show up when I press 'menu' on the remote. I assume that is where it shows up.. but no one expressly mentions that either.

My question is.. None of the post I have found expressly mentions the HR21 and setting up media sharing. Is the set top box I have capable of this? If so, it would be great if someone could point me to instructions that may already exits in this forum that I just cant find.

Thanks in advance,
Atreus

Thank you for the quick response;-) I read the thread you sent me. It still does not reference the HR21-700... it only deals with the HR20.

Any help is appreciated.

I had to open up the TCP and UDP ports 41952 on my Windows firewall in order for me to get Tyversity to work with my HR21. The rest of the instructions were the typical Tyversity settings mentioned all over the place on these boards.

This is the only difference between HR2x models...
Facts on Network Connection provided on Directv Equipment
The USB port does NOT support the use of a network adapter
There are no hardware additions that can be added internally to the Directv equipment that would make the equipment wireless network capable, like a PC
HR20-700 - One single RJ45 port with MDI/MDI-x 100 Full Duplex, no cross over cable required
HR20-100 - Two RJ45 ports with MDI/MDI-x 100 Full Duplex, no cross over cable required, only Port 1 is currently enabled
H21-200 - One single RJ45 port with MDI/MDI-x 100 Full Duplex, no cross over cable required, not currently enabled
HR21-700 - Two RJ45 ports with MDI/MDI-x 100 Full Duplex, no cross over cable required, network switch chipset, both ports active and can be used to daisy chain, "Drawing of an HR21 daisy chain hook-up.pdf"

Which is listed in the referenced thread...

I have a HR21-700 and it's doing mediashare with XP and WMP 11.0. To get the HR21 to work, I had to go into the network set-up on the STB and put all my network setting, manually. I could never get DHCP to work. There's help on this site on how to do this. Once I completed this, I cycled the STB and checked my router for the new device. Once I saw that the device was on the network, I went into WMP under sharing and enabled sharing and the device showed up in the list of available devices to share media with. The HR21-700 is listed as "unknown device".

I have my HR-21 set up for Internet and media sharing using the Linksys WET200 Wireless Bridge and TVersity. I have the AT&T DSL 2Wire router and I had to open up the TCP and UDP port 41952 for TVersity in the routers firewall settings. Otherwise, it was fairly strait forward using the great info posted by Spanky.

1. Connect bridge to router and log on using its default IP address
2. Specify the wireless settings using your routers IP address for the Gateway and DNS settings. I specified a new IP address and password for the bridge also.
3. Specify your routers wireless security settings for the bridge.
4. If you are using Mac filtering, specify both the bridge and wireless bridge access Mac addresses in the routers settings.
5. Specify TVersity port for TCP and UDP in the routers or windows firewall settings, whichever one you choose to use.
6. Hook up the bridge to the HR-21, go to setup, network, advance settings and connect.

The HR-21 gets an assigned IP address and away you go. It shows up in my local network as the HR-21-700.

atreus, I am assuming your HR21-700 is connected to the internet? If so, how is it connected?

I am connecting through a Buffalo Tech ethernet converter and needed to do 2 things to get my HR20-100 connected: 1) upgrade the firmware in the EC and 2) assign a static IP to my HR20-100. If either of these apply to your situation I would try them.
