I am all over the Directv website (signed in, of course) and I can't find anything about the HD Extra pack.

Can someone give me a step by step how to add it?

How do I know if I don't need to add it? I read that a small percentage won't need to add it- how do i know if I fit into this catagory?

You need to go to the section for changing your programming. Several pages in, there is the selection for the HD Extra Pack. The selection will be Grayed out if you don't need it.

I've been with Directv for almost 10years and HD for five...I tried to add the HD pack online but it wouldn't let me...said I needed HD equipment...clearly the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing. I called and added the programming which starts with the three free months and billed after that date. I fully expect to pay more over the next five years and more for HD content and I'll probably pay it. It's a good value for me...not for others...HD has reached a point for me where there is no turning back or reducing.

I also couldn't order on the website for the same reason (guessing it had to do with grandfathered Total Choice Plus base package), but when I called up, I was able to add the HD Extra pack without fuss, and it clearly called it "HD Extra with the first 3 months free", without having to talk to a human. I know some people would prefer to talk to someone, but I'd rather do some automated method.

Problem with automated methods, (particularily the website), is that things tend to go awry. Certain services get removed/something...
But, atleast the phone system got you taken care of!
