Well, I just couldn't resist. A new computer like box with USB ports and a house full of USB devices. Here's what I found that works  and what doesn't

USB keyboards (Microsoft,HP) : yeap. A real no brainer here. Standard USB to USB and keyboard support within D*'s version of linux. One note: it looks like the USB ports don't supply USB power (maybe a linux driver thing as oppose to the actual hardware?).

USB mouses: standard mouses with USB plug. All of the varieties I have worked. One exception: the MS BlueTooth wireless mouse. Gee what a surprise  Not a big deal. I suspect that the 721/linux will not support BlueTooth devices on the USB port anytime soon :D But, the Logitect MX700 wireless RF USB mouse does work! I would suspect any true USB mouse like wireless would also work.

USB mouse and Keyboard: yeap, both work at the same time. Now where's that 2nd USB port on the 721? Oh yes, it's hidden under the front sliding panel thing-ie. One note: My USB Keyboard has a two port USB hub built into it, and yes plug the keyboard into the front 721 USB port, plug the USB mouse into the keyboard hub, and they both work- wow USB must be a standard even on a linux box

There is one thing about the mouse. The mouse seems to really only work on the program guide. Yeap, the cursor is there on other screens and menus, but it's not visable- maybe a future fix for D*? Also, it would be nice if the 721 would support a scrolling mouse- or maybe I'm asking for too much?

Well, off to the store to get a wireless USB keyboard (now I seem to have a place to use one where it makes sense).

Cheers :hi:

Let us know how the wireless keyboard works out. I'd like to get one too, but it needs to work from across the room (close to 15 feet).

Isn't the 721 an Echostar product?

My Intel RF wireless keyboard and MS wireless mouse work from my couch (13 feet away). I'll try from the kitchen and see if it still works.

Yes, it's Echostar technology (a two tuner PVR).

Rick is trying to point out the D* is Directv and E* is Dish Network. In your original post, you were saying D* as Dish Network. :)

The wireless keyboards can be used with the cones that allow you to turn channels in other rooms can't they?

Tried my wireless kbd/mse from the kitchen (32 feet away) work fine.

JacobS, my Intel keyboard receiver is in the shape of a cone, don't know if there are repeaters or something like that, that would work with it.
