PanAmSat is ready to tackle 2003 and beyond with a handful of initiatives the company hopes will keep it competitive among other satellite service providers.

Said PanAmSat CEO Joe Wright, "In 2003, our focus will be on continued profitability and growth. We are now ready for it. Our growth strategy will not rely on one transaction or the launch of a new satellite or technology - we're coming at it from many angles."

Part of the company's new focus will be on consolidation within the satellite services business. "Clearly, consolidation is occurring in this industry and PanAmSat is looking at these opportunities," Wright said.

PanAmSat, controlled by Hughes Electronics, also plans to expand its efforts in areas such as government services, digital services and hybrid networks, Wright said. In addition, the company is planning initiatives that will support emerging technologies such as video-on-demand, HDTV, the integration of fiber/satellite/wireless services and broadband over satellite.

"These and many other initiatives will enable the delivery of even greater services to our customers and even more value to our shareholders over the long-term," Wright said.

The 2003 goals came along with fourth quarter 2002 results. For the three-month period, PanAmSat generated revenues of $196.8 million, EBITDA of $144.4 million and earnings per share of 16 cents.
