I have been a faithful fan of Monster Quest on Tuesdays--it has always been in full 1080i. Last night -- it suddenly appeared with bars at top and bottom and the Native Passthrough (set to on) showed 720p.
I changed the Native pass-through to OFF -- also cycled through my Sony LCD projection's HD modes.
The show was definitely down-rezzed to 720p.
Also strange--got a call from Direct asking me if I had any problems with HD.
Did anyone else see this same down-rezzing on Monster Quest?
Is this D* or the History Channel doing this?

I have seen this on Modern Marvels, it seems to be just a problem on their end. I would love it if they would get it together.

History channel is 720p. Always.
Programs from 2007 are typically in HD. Older stuff is usually UP rezzed and stretched. Even if it was originally in letterbox.
I understand the full screen stuff was SD and History Channel chooses to stretch. The letterbox stuff is annoying. Why was it in LB if not HD? And even then, I prefer OAR but how about crop/zoom rather than stretch?
For example..right now Mega Disasters is on. It was made in 2006 and is letterbox but stretched so there are bars on top and bottom and the screen is stretched side to side.

Yeah, that's the point. If it was SD letterbox, they should scale it proportionately, not stretch it.

I find if it is broadcast letterbox stretched you can zoom(crop) it and it doesn't look to bad. It lessens the effect of the nasty stretch.

You mean on your TV? Can't crop with the HR20.

Last night's episode was supposed to be shown in HD but they blew it, like they've done with both episodes of The Universe from the current season.

Dogfights is being shown in HD right now. Hopefully that means they got their stuff fixed.
Doesn't looked fixed to me.
