I recently replaced my Family Room HR10-250 with an HR21. I decided to relegate the HR10 to bedroom duty. The problem is that the Family room is completely wired for 2 satellite inputs and my OTA signal--with the bedroom, only having a single coax to feed it, I'm diplexing 1 SAT signal and my OTA signal and then un-diplexing them behind the HR10.

So, as far as the HR10 is concerned, I have 1 SAT input and 1 OTA input. I've gone in to the menus and told the system that it only has 1 SAT input, and I only see 1 tuner when I press "info" while watching live TV.

What I don't understand is why I can't record something off of the SAT and watch/record something off of the OTA at the same time? I should be able to do any combination of watching/recording as I want EXCEPT recording 2 satellite programs, shouldn't I?

Thanks for the help.

From what I remember this is the way the HR10 works. If you tell it 1 sat feed it acts like a single tuner box. Don't forget even with 2 ATSC and 2 sat tuners in the box the TiVo can only deal with a total of 2 at any time. With a one tuner setting you will still be able to record/watch OTA or sat. You can always watch something from the list if either tuner is tied up.

The Tivo pairs up one sat tuner with a corresponding ATSC tuner. It can only use one tuner from a pair at any given time. If you have two sat feeds and tell the Tivo this during setup then you have access to all four tuners, but only two at a time. If you tell it you only have one input then you'll only have access to one tuner (sat or ATSC, depending on what channel you've requested). The antenna feed is split internally whereas the sat inputs have to be dedicated and separate due to LNB switching.
