Last night I noticed dim blue lights spinning. Still going this morning. Only a black screen on my tv (hr21 component/ analog > panny 500u). RBR no luck.
RBR and forced dl... it finds 0193 at 12:10 pst and acquires the software. It acquires 100%, goes to the blue and white DTV HDDVR screen and sits. And sits and sits. Then it goes black.
It seems the command to acquire the satellite signal is not being executed.
Any ideas before I trash this thing in favor of another 20 which includes my local sports in HD (the 21 does not..)?
thanks to all in advance
How are you going to "trash this thing" ?
If you call DIRECTV there's no guarantee you'll get a 20 instead of a 21.

How does the 20 include your local sports? Are you referring to OTA or something else?

Are you networked? If so, pull the network cable and reboot.

As the Monty Python Parrot sketch goes:
'E's passed on! This parrot is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed 'im to the perch 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig! 'E's kicked the bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!! THIS IS AN EX-PARROT!!

I called D* a couple days ago; they said it was no problem to get a 20 instead. It may be a refurbished one, however.
Yes, I was referring to the lack of ota for certain L.A. stations. KTLA broadcasts the Lakers in hd, but its only available via ota. Its not available via the 21. I'm not too happy with a usb tuner idea either, especially at a cost. Its not only KTLA, its 13 for the Angels and 56 for the Ducks.
When I first received the 21, I thought I wouldn't mind this omission because my 20 is on the same shelf. I was wrong. It would be much better to be able to record any of four tuners. But on shows I watch often and record, like local sports, the 21 might as well be a brick. Its still miles above the 10-250, though, even while lacking dlb's.
Its not networked.
Update: I pulled one of the tuner cables and unplugged the machine for a minute. Upon rebooting, it began acquiring signals. After it completed, I plugged in the second tuner and rebooted, and everything worked fine. It was a pain in the butt; and to have sudden troubles like that for all the money we pay D* is really a drag.
The 20 has saved itself from the grueling Comfy Chair!
PS. Called D* BEFORE trouble occurred, only to see if replacement was available. It should be clear that ce participants MUST NOT call D* for operational issues.
