This could have gone in the "Laughter" forum, but I'm thinking more computer savvy people would get a kick out of this.

So, I just got off of the phone with a friend of mine. He had just gone to CompUSA to buy himself a video card for his computer. I don't know how, but somehow, some way, the clerk convinced him to buy a PCI (not PCI-Express, straight PCI) nVidia GeForce FX5500 card for $80. The clerk's reasoning was that the PCI one would be better, even though my friend has an AGP slot on his board. To boot, it was $10 more than its AGP counterpart.

Me: "Let me guess, since they're going out, all sales are final, right?"
Reponse: "Yep."

Upon hearing that, I gave him the 3rd degree.

Me: "Don't buy ANY computer parts again without consulting me first!" :lol:

Sad thing is, I had just told him yesterday that the chain was closing, and why I was glad, and yadda yadda. For some odd reason, he thought he was getting a closeout deal on a card that's 3 generations behind current tech.

And this friend likes to sell himself to people as a person who can fix their computer problems as well. :bang

I'd love to, believe me. :lol: Another example;

At one point (3ish months ago), he took off to Virginia on a whim, and lost his job (pumping gas) in the process. He called me from there, told me he was considering moving from up here (Mass.) down there, in with some girl he kinda knows from childhood. Anyway, long story short, I ask him how he's going to make ends meet. His answer was pretty much;

Him: "Well, I could look here and there, find something. I'm also a computer repair technician, so that could help me too."

To which I replied;

Me: "D**w, you are not a computer repair technician, and just because you install free anti-spyware and anti-virus software onto people's computers to help them run better does not make you such. You have zero credentials, experience, or certifications."

Him: "Yeah, well, I can still fix stuff."

Needless to say, he still lives up here. Anytime he has a computer problem (even ones a simple web search would yield the answers to), he calls me. I can't tell you how many computer repair "jobs" he's called me for help on because he's botched something, or made false promises to his "customers" and needs me to help to bail him out.

So, after that, I'm sure the first blurb doesn't sound too out of the ordinary. :uglyhamme
