Saw this in Mark's Monday memo, one of the first times I have seen any #s put to HDTV subscribers.

" A story in today's Television Digest newsletter (+1 202
872-9200) says only Time Warner Cable has released a hard number of HDTV
subscribers, and it's 76,000."

I was down in Orlando this weekend, and Time Warner there is pushing HDTV really hard. I don't see them pushing it that hard in NYC though. They're pushing VoD harder here.

How exactly is VoD different from PPV? Is it like a Hotel where the movie will start as soon as you order it?

Some VOD on cable give you fast forward, reverse, etc. Some, like starz are downloading the movie you order to your PVR then you have full control over it.
