     A story in today's Consumer Electronics newsletter (+1 202
872-9200) says they had two HD PVR/ATSC-receiver combos, the less
expensive of which is to cost $999 when it becomes available this
spring.  It's not supposed to use either ReplayTV or TiVo technology
and, therefore, have no monthly fee.

Well if it is just like a regular "VCR" where the Sat reciever sends a signal to start/stop recording to the hard drive then no fee makes sense (in may actually be a HD but "Dumber" no guide, only event timer version of the Dish 50x, if the 50x is considered the least feature rich PVR out there)

Soon there will have to be a recognized marking for a "Dumb" PVRs which just record to the drive instead of tape (like the 50x) and those that do addtional functions (often at a cost) like the TiVo, UTV, 721, DP, etc so we can compare Oranges to Oranges...

Just think, in 4 years, these HD PVRs will be $150 and there will be ton to choose from.
