A few minutes ago the TV screen went black while watching the Strongman competition on ESPN. Nothing on other channels either but guide comes up and I can scroll through it. Tried turning off the HR20 with remote and with it's power button but it won't turn off. Tried watching DVR recordings but message pops up that I don't have DVR service activated. Other TV's in the house are working. Should I press the red reset button or unplug the power cord for a while or?? I've had the HR20 for at least 6 months and never had a problem with it till now.
Thanks,
VR

Try reauthorizing your services online: https://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/mydirectv/mysystem/mySystemResendAuthorization.jsp
Or call to reauthorize. If that doesn't work and since your menues respond, do a menu reset via the setup menu.

Reauthorizing did nothing. HR20 doesn't respond to any inputs now, guide won't come up, nothing. What's next?

Pull the power cord for 15min. If that does not do it then pull and replace the access card while it is powered up. I have had limited success with that. Bottom line in patience between tries. Try one thing and sit back for a few minutes to see if it took.
Sorry, I re-read the post. Yes definitely start with a RBR before the above suggestions. I thought I read that you had already tried those options.
Had the same thing happen to my HD DVR; did the reset with the red button. Working now.
First time to have a problem with this set.

This happened to us here in Hillsborough too a little while ago. Resetting fixed the
problem. Hope it solved yours as well.

Hit the red button on the front. rbr = red button reset

Okay, I didn't do the RBR, I did the PPCF15(pulled power cord for 15)and it's now to the 90% satellite info download point......97%......97........97.........crap, oh wait, "rescheduler building", whatever that is........bingo, Strongman competition is back, yippee! Thanks to all.

Nice, congrads. For the future, #1 get a battery back-up because it will save you on 99% of these issues. #2 the method of procedure from softest to worst is;
a. a remote reset through the setup menu
b. rbr as above
c. pull the power for 15min+
d. pull the card for a minute
e. pull out your hair and get a csr involved for a replacement

Great to hear .. For reference, RBR is Red Button Reset. The red button is behind the door for the access card on the lower right hand side of the receiver. Just flip the door down and there it is.
What you experienced was a bug that has been seen by others at various times as well.
