View Full Version : Two DTivo questions
1)I spoke with someone at Hi-Fi Buys (some of you know it as Tweeter) who told me there is no $99 deal for the HDVR2 for new subs. Is this true? Or is it just for older model DirecTivos, or something?
2)Also, I'm with Dish right now but I was with DTV six years ago. I know that once I'm a sub I'll never again be a new customer, but how does the store know that I used to be with D? I know quite a few people that went to a store and told them they were signing up with D and they got the discount on the spot just by saying they were new. At least that was my impression. How does this work?
Please help. What are your thoughts?

When buying at a store just say you are not a customer of DirecTV and they will give you the discount. What happens is when you activate the receiver if you are not a new customer the store or chain gets charged back. The sales droid does not know this so to them it is just a matter of putting a code into the register to charge you the "new customer" price.

They are not $99, they are $199. New and existing subs get the same price, new subs get a free installation.
If you have moved to a new address in the last 6 years, you are a new customer. If you use the same name at the same address you had before, Directv will know you are a previous sub. The store doesn't know, but Directv will not give them their payment for signing up a new customer and the store will charge you the full price for the equipment ($150 - $200 over your purchase price).
Wedge, I'm not sure I'm grasping what you're saying. Are you saying that I should tell them that I'm a new sub and get the $99 price and let them absorb the cost of the difference if it turns out I'm not a new sub by DTV's criteria?
Spanish, I'm afraid I'm not grasping your post, either. You say the price is the same for everyone, new or old sub (you seem to be in disagreement with Wedgecon), but you then say that Hi-Fi Buys will charge me the "full price" if they judge me not to be a new customer.
And there would be a penalty fee (150-200) over and above what I pay for the receiver!?! Surely you jest!
Please forgive my confusion here guys. I appreciate the help.

If you get it at Hi_Fi Buys/Tweeter (and GoodGuys) it's $199 out the door no matter if you're a new sub or old. Everywhere else it's $299 with a $100 new sub bonus that you will get a chargeback on if you don't activate within the designated time frame or you are an old sub.
There is also a $50 rebate no matter what.
Get it at HiFi/Tweeter and be happy...
and don't call me Shirley
Hey, an MST3K fan using an Airplane movie joke. You're my kinda guy (no, not that way)
The sales rep at Hi-Fi Buys told me no to the $50 rebate when I asked about it. So, are you sure about that? Maybe I'll ask for a manager.

They told me there wasn't one at CC either if I got the $100 new sub discount, but it printed out anyway.. so I didn't argue...
that $50 rebate may have expired, so don't hold me to that.
