Hello from Austin TX.
I am considering an upgrade to HD-DVR and noticed that Best Buy is selling the HR21-600 while most others sell the HR21-700. What is the difference?
Thanks very much,

Best Buy always has goofy model numbers. Pretty sure that it's actually an HR21-700.

there is no -600... must be a typo..

Or it was an H21-600 and the OP misread the label.

Since there is no H21-600, it can't be it.
BB is labeling the HR21-700 as a -600 for some unknown reason.

No typo (or not on my part). The BB web site lists the product as HR21-600. Also, that is the way it is identified on by a label on the box.
I've seen references to the HR21-200 on the internet... I am assuming this was a prototype.
Thanks for any clarifications.

Or it really is a typo for the H21-200 that is out now.

Soon to be out...
I am not sure it has been released to retail yet.

Google couldn't find anything but "it was leaked" on websites for the HR21 pro.

I can confirm this. I don't have a BB near me, but since I was away for Christmas, I stopped by a BB to get something else. I made it a point to go back to the TV dept. to see what D* gear they offered and I saw the HR21-600 for sale. I looked on the actual box to see the model number.
Some of these newer D* units are quite small, compared to the HR20-700.

So I just got off the phone with Customer Support, after being ping-pong ed to different reps I finally spoke to someone who seemed knowledgeable.... this person said that the "-x00" is used to track the manufacturer of the unit. So, the "-600" and "-700" are made from different vendors.
I went ahead and picked one up at Best Buy this afternoon. Looking at the box, I see that it is "made in China". What isn't these days?
The box has 2 labels: one indicates it is a "-600" and the other says it is a "-700".

Believe the -700 [PACE] since the -600 is LG and they don't make a DVR but do make the H20-600.

I checked my local Best Buy also. They had several boxes with Best Buy labels on saying HR21-600 but the original DirecTV labels said HR21-700.
Was in Best Buy before Christmas.
All of the HR21-700's had Best Buy labels of HR21-600 but all of the DirecTV offical labels were HR21-700. They are HR21-700's.
Also, they had H21-200's.

The HR21 at Best Buy is a 700 series. I work in the retail channel and it is a mis print. I actually got my HR21 box that I got at Best Buy in front of me (I hoard too much stuff, but you never know) and it is a 700 series not a 600 series as listed on their website or price tags. Best Buy had the same problem on the HR20 price tag. It was listed as a HR20-250, which was an error obviously. It is the same item as D* distrubtes directly.

Doesn't Best Buy use slightly different model numbers so that they don't have to price match? I thought that they did this extensively with TV's.

Nope, that's generally Costco and Sams Club (but for the reverse reason).

Generally with those two, it is a different model number, but not only that it is a SLIGHTLY different model. Like one less HDMI input for example, nothing huge though.
