View Full Version : 501 P168 Bug - No "Out Of Timers" Message

Hello all. Just wanted to let you all (and hopefully Dish if they read this) know about a minor bug I discovered with my 501 on build 168.

I had done a search (via the # button), and the show I was looking for had a couple of listings come up. So I highlighted one and pressed the SELECT button on the remote, which brought me to the set timer window. I changed the timer setting to weekly from once.

Then I tried pressing the SELECT button on the remote again to save the timer (while the 'Create Timer' button was highlighted). When I did this, nothing happened. Just plain nothing. I had thought that my box had freezed up, but I could move the pointer around and select other controls on the timer setting window. If I tried again after reselecting the 'Create Timer' button, again nothing happened.

Tried cancelling out, rebooting the box, and no change. Then I went in to my timer menu directly, and counted how many timers I had, and wouldn't you know it, I had 50 timers!

So my guess as to what was happening was that I had reached my timer limit, but the error message/window that tells a person this did not display, possibly because I was trying to set a timer from the search windows. Or else the displaying of the 'no more timers' message doesn't work at all. Either case, a minor but pain in the rear bug.

FYI.

Oh, as a follow up to my last message.

I was watching a show, and wanted to start recording it. Pressed the record button on the remote, and got the window where you choose how much/long you want it to record. I tried taking the default, which is to go until the end of the event, and guess what, nothing happened again! No error message, no recording light.

It seems that this option only works if you have a available timer. If you don't, nothing happens. It doesn't tell you anything.

When I selected manually stop recording, the recording light came on, and the show was being recorded.

Bottom line, the "no more timers available" window NEEDS to be displayed in the two scenarios that I describe in this message thread.

Has anyone else been able to reproduce this?

Was it something I said? :)

Nobody else is seeing this problem? I'm able to recreate it and verify its existence by deleting the 50th timer and seeing that it works ok, and then by adding back the 50th timer and seeing that it doesn't display any message. Anybody else?

I'll let you know when I get to 50 timers :)

It might be awhile though...

Thanks. I'm always in the 45+ timer range, for a family of three that doesn't watch that much tv. We tell the 501 to record stuff all the time, and then if we have time to sit in front of the tv, we do and watch what we like that was previously recorded. If we don't, it falls off when newer shows are recorded, and its no big deal if we missed the older stuff. Or we protect the important stuff we really want to watch.

I have to do some weekly timers for shows that are on Mon-Fri because of show time conflicts, so I have three/four shows that are each taking up five timers (Weekly), instead of one (M-F).

I usually get into trouble when I'm trying to set a couple of "one time only" timers that I just saw a commercial for that will be on tv later in the week. If I don't have too many of those, I usually don't hit the 50th timer, but this last week when I discovered this problem I had four different one-time timers set.

For our family, if the limit was 60, I'd probably have never seen this problem/bug.
