Hello. I had and satellite installation company for 11years. I got out of the business for several reasons. During my time in business all we did were the basic 18in Directv dishes and the phase III dishes. I see now these new slimline dishes going up for HD. Is it true that I will need a birddog meter to point these dishes? I want to go back into business on the weekends

No, you don't have to have a birdog. I use a Digisat III Pro for my installs. It's basically the same as the Accutrac that many others around here use. It's a great meter for the price ($125 from my local supply store). It doesn't tell you which sat it is locked on to like the birdog, but you'll be able to get it right almost every time once you do a few slimline installs.

Hey Thanks. I use a Satbuddy. I love that meter. I really don't want to put out 450.00 for a new meter, know what I mean? So is it the same as pointing the triple lnb dishes? Find the 101 and the rest basicly fall into place?

I use a birddog, but i have installed a few just using a channel master with 22k tone switch. Just max your 101 and 119 out and thats all usually. After a while you'll get so good you wont even need to fine tune. Thats coming from a week without a birddog.
A friend of mine uses the same meter as the other guy and luvs it.

Thanks bud. Thats what I thought. That Acutrac meter is not bad in price. I just can't see putting out 450.00 for a birddog if I can do it with the meter I have or the acutrac. Thanks for your help!!
