Hi all, I have a H20 on one of my TVs. It has been acting up and have to do multiple resets every evening in order to get it to work properly. I have the protection plan, when I call for a replacement, could I request a HR 21? Im not doing this to try to only get a freebie, the H20 really doesnt work properly.
I'm sure they will replace your H20 with another H20 or an H21. An HR21 would be an upgrade that you would most likely have to pay for.

Actually, it's probably easier to get an HR21 because the HR20's are limited supplies. You do give up the off-air tuners with the HR21, though.

Call for an upgrade to the hr21 and tell them you want to swap it out for the h20 that is faulty. Make sure to tell the tech it is faulty, so it can be properly tagged.
Your price will vary depending on what the CSR has to offer you.

They're only dispensing the discontinued 20's to those who get no HD LILs as they need the tuners. The default for everybody else is now the 21.

Ok i will try to ask if theres an upgrade cost, I wouldnt mind getting it for free but I wouldnt mind paying an upgrade rate. On the same note what is D*'s policy on upgrade a regular SD box to a regular HD box?

Have you had to replace you HR20 multiple times? If so, you may be able to upgrade for free or cheap.

The OP wants to replace a faulty H20 with an HR21.
The question that remains is if he wants OTA? If yes, then he needs the HR20.

Just remember whatever deal they give you on the HR21 upgrade will probably include a new 2 year commitment, so keep that in mind...

No OTA needed...like I said I have a faulty H20 (nonDVR) and I want to see if they would upgrade me to a HR21 for free or what would the cost be. Also I have 2 D11's and 1 R15 that I would be interested in upgrading to HD sometime in the next couple of months if there were any special programs.
Basically I have:
HR20-100 (no problems)
H20 (Faulty--> call to replace with H21 or upgrade to HR21)
R15--->Future Upgrade to a H21 or HR21
D11--->Future Upgrade to H21
D11--->Future Upgrade to H21
D11--> Not Upgrading
As stated in other threads, the really good deals seem to have gone away, simply due to the high demand for HD with all the new channels. The best way still seems to be to write an email from the DirecTV website, stating your request. Other posts indicate that usually will get you a response with a phone number and a PIN to get to the right department to make your best deal.
Incidentally, there is talk that there will be a price drop on the HR21 coming in January.
