DirecTV 5 LNB dish and older HD recievers

Hello

I currently have two HR20 receivers and one Sony SATHD-100. I have installed the new 5 LNB dish and the HR20s are working great. The Sony SATHD-100 only gets 2 HD channels. I know that I will not receive the newly added HD channels on the SATHD-100 but I'm wonder why I don't receive the older HD channels such as 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 76, 78, 79, 81, 83 when I had the 3 LNB dish with Sony SATHD-100?

Yes the SATHD-100 is setup for 3LNBs. I do get channels 89, 87 in HD.

You should receive those MPEG2 HD channels. How's your reception from 110-deg and 119-deg W satellites? It might also be an authorization problem. You would need to call DirecTV to resolve that.

110 - 119 is 85 to 90 signal

Have you tried calling DirecTV to check that receiver's channel authorization?

What two HD channels does it receive? Exactly what channels are you not receiving that you should be?

We have the exact same receiver here, with the exact same setup, and it's doing the exact same thing. Bought a new H21, hooked it up, working fine with the same dish.

I think the SAT-HD100 is just done at this point. Obviously it doesn't do any MPEG-4 stuff, and in addition it's no longer getting any locals (and when it does they aren't the correct channel).

So we tracked it down to no matter what SAT it's claiming the channels were coming from, they were actually all coming from SAT A--as if the receiver can no longer tell the dish or switch to send anything other than SAT A--and it sounds like yours is now doing the same thing as well. It used to work just fine though, and as I said, another receiver with same switch and dish do as well.

Might be time to put the HD100 to rest sadly (and it's noisy fan!) :)

Yep, sounds like a tuner problem in the Sony Receiver. Time to upgrade.

I think that some of the OLD HD channels have been remapped to new locations, and so the old Sony is about to become history.

I have pulled down my old 3 lnb dish and don't want to put it back up but I'm wondering if the older HD channels would come back using a 3 lnb dish or has Directv moved all the HD channels over to the new satellites.

I guess I will have to get another HR20

The Sony sees the 5 LNB as a 3 LNB, but cannot see the 103 and 99 sats, that is where the HD has moved to, so you can either use the sony as a SD rcvr, or get a new HD box for the HD:grin:
