View Full Version : 18x20 Dish Install
I am looking to buy this Dish Click Here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3000934735&category=11726) and i am not sure what i need to change from my current setup to make it work. I currently have a 18" dish with dual LNBF. 2 RG6 cables running underground to my basement to a 3x8 multiswitch running 6 recievers. So i ask what would i need to change.

You might need to change to a 5X8 multi-switch and run at least two more RG6's to the multi-switch from the dish itself. There are ways to cascade multi-switches, I just don't know how to do it. The dish itself has a 5X4 multi-switch which doesn't have enough outlets to run your six receivers.
The company you are dealing with is great. I have dealt with them in the past and was very pleased.

Okay, you have a multisat dish with integrated 2x4 switch and you need more than just the four outputs. Here's how.
When dealing with LNBs straight to a switch, the switch outputs 13VDC constant to one port and 18VDC to the other for a single dual LNB. It does the same on the other dual LNB. It now has access to all four signals at the same time. 101 odd, 101 even, 119 odd, and 119 even.
The receiver outputs the usual 13VDC or 18VDC to select either the odd or even transponders as usual and when it is dealing with one satellite alone, it doesn't matter to the receiver that the switch is there. When it wants the other satellite however, it has to add a 22Khz signal to the voltage to select the other bird.
So, your four port switch has theoretically everything potentially right there, but your average multiswitch doesn't connect to another multiswitch, but goes straight to the LNBs. It isn't going to send 22Khz tone to the 119 side because it wasn't designed with that in mind.
This simply means you have to force two of the lines from the first multiswitch to show the 119 bird by giving them a nonstop 22Khz signal. You need two such inline signal generators, both availible from Perfect 10 and your closest dealer(most installers have accounts with them).
Now you have two lines from 101 and two from 119 and the next multiswitch can be hooked up as if it was going directly to the dual LNBs with nothing in between. If cost is not a problem, then consider a Spaun multiswitch. They go to as many as sixteen output ports if you have a real need for televisions everywhere in your house.
Of course, that is the future so DTV will have to upgrade to a better scheme than a two bit four state method like this. DiSEqC would be nice. :hi:

I have a Terk 18X20 dish for Directv with the 101 and 119 LNB's. I just added the Sat C for the 109 satellite and found that my Samsung SIR-TS160 was having problems, i.e. looking for satellite on channels that were previoulsy being received. My Mitsu receiver seemed to be working ok. The 109 was also inconsistent on the Samsung. I double checked my cabling and everything was hooked up as instructed. Any thoughts or tips regarding the Sat C upgrade would be greatly appreciated.
Tnx
