I was looking over one of my neighbors new (upgrade to HD with Slimline)installation this morning and noticed that the multiwitch was a SAM-6802 6x8.

Is this the same as the WB-68 and are the two compatible? They look exactly the same but I thought the WB-68 was the only approved one of this type.

He says he asked the installer about it and the installer told him this multiswitch would work fine and there was no need to replace it.

He doesn't seem to be having any issues that I saw but he did mention some intermittent 771 messages.

That is an older Zinwell that is now replaced with the WB68, and your neighbor should have it upgraded, since it isn't rated for the Ka SATs. : http://www.solidsignal.com/prod_display.asp?PROD=SAM-6802

The SAM-6802 is the older model 6 x 8 that Zinwell produced to provide access to the "flexports" and access to the satellites at 95 and 72.5. The SAM-6802 is not a replacement for the WB68.

With a SAM-6802 access to the new HD channels on DirecTV 10 should not work.

Thanks for the info, I'll pass on that he should call DirecTv.
The odd thing is that the HD channels are working. I'm wondering though if that could be the source of his occasional 771 messages. I checked his BBC's and they seem fine.

yes that is the reason for the 771 messages. the signal gets through sometimes but not always
