Starting late tomorrow night and lasting through the weekend we are expecting a series of storms across the sierras. Some forecasters are predicting up to 10ft of snow in the higher elevations, naturally these storms will bring winds down in our valley of about 60mph along with rain and snow mix.

This should be a nice little test for the dish location that I'm not thrilled with. If I still have a picture by Monday I will be quite impressed.

Well....

Depending on the quality of your install...

My dish has taken two Chicago winters now... with no problems.
This includes a day full of 40+ mph winds, with gusts into the 70's just two weeks ago.

My brothers dish... not so good, it spun a bit and got out of allignment.

If you have the chance... go out and double check to make sure all your bolts are tight.

Let us know how it works out... the more information the better.

Please post your results back here, and while you are at it, check and see how your neighbors cable system does and post that also.

There have been several posts here on how to remove snow from your dish, I might go out now and pick up a super soaker water gun, if I were you.

I can get to the dish with a 6ft step ladder, no need for H20 weaponry.

I just changed from cable, we have had some pretty major storms over the past 3 years in this house and we never had a problem with our service.

The bolts should be tight, they were just put in a week ago, but maybe not a bad idea to double check. I will let you all know how it works out.

If you haven't installed the dish yourself, ALWAYS check the bolts to make sure they're tight. Most installers will make sure they're tight, but some want to get off your job and onto the next as quick as possible that they'll cut corners everywhere.

I tightened all my bolts down right after the installer left. They were all loose.

Snow rarely impacts my signal. Heavy rain is the real problem for me (but even then I rarely lose signal for more than 15 minutes.

The only time I have a problem with snow is when wet snow and wind combine to create snow buildup on my dish. This happens maybe once a year. I then use my snow removal tool: a paint roller covered with a towel (so it doesn't scratch the dish) attached to an extension pole.

Ditto.. the day after my Slimline install, it was breezy, so I went out and found just about all of the nuts were loose. Some were hand tight and others were barely even on the bolt. I tightened these suckers up and been fine since then, through several snow storms and several days with winds over 40 mph.

I've only experienced "snow fade" once either last year or the year before. It was a very very heavy snowfall, in excess of 3 inches an hour.

I borrowed a neighbor kids supersoaker and cleaned off my dish and another neighbors dish yesterday. wasn't having issues, but build was beginning to occur with more snow on the way.

consider spraying the dish with Rainx before the storm. supposed to keep snow buildup from happening.

Had a foot of snow dropped on us yesterday and last night, along with 30-40 mph winds. Never saw even a glitch in my signal. There is snow on the dish too.:D

It sounds, based on member experience, I should be just fine. Thanks for the input.

Since I live in earls vincinity I too can report no problems with my dish. I had it re-located a while back to a ground post. Very solid!

They have full blizzard warnings out and are starting emergency preparations. Time to head for the cave.

We had 50-60MPH winds a few weeks ago (blew my BBQ off the patio - no major damage) and the dish was rock solid. Signal strengths still look right, though I haven't had a nice clear day to check for over a month.

One of the coax cables broke the wire ties and flapped around in the wind, but the dish was fine.

This is a Slimline wall mount with the braces.

Here it is Saturday afternoon and I still have service, well mostly. Our channel 8 is out but it seems tht it is their problem rather than D*'s. That is the only issue, so far.

Moisture totals are impressive at this point. Reno has received at least 25% of its annual water totals by Saturday morning and the storm looks like it will last till Tues or Wed. On Thursday and Friday we had winds sustained of over 40mph with gusts well over 60. In the foothills and mountains they were much higher. I have never seen it rain in Reno like it did yesterday, plenty of localized flooding till the snow came in then it settled down a bit. The mountains have gotten feet of snow so far.

The point of all this, I still have service and it looks great although I was at work during the worst of it. It's starting to snow again in town, forecasters are predicting up to another foot of snow in town so we will see what happens. Just sit back and watch the plethora of sports in HD. I am impressed.
