View Full Version : switch between live tv and recorded program

I am no longer able to switch between a previously recorded program and live TV and back now. This is a feature I used all the time. If I am watching live tv sometimes, during commercials I switch to a program previously recorded and then switch back and forth.

I just noticed this week that it no longer works. It switches between two live channels but not back to the previously recorded program.

Anyone else seen this?

How do I tell what version I have now? It used to be under settings but I don't see it now...perhaps I am overlooking?

Based on a post over at DirecTV forums, I just checked my R15 and sure enough it is now toggling to channel 201.

Start on live TV.
Then start a recording.
Then push Previous Channel and toggle to live TV.
Then push Previous Channel and go to channel 201.

The first time I tried this, once it went to 201 it stayed there, previous channel never took me off of 201.

The second time I tried this, it toggled back and forth between the first live TV channel and channel 201.

This is a major step backwards in functionality.

Yes. I think it was reported in the CE forum.

D* - if/when you fix it, how about including the ability to use prev to toggle between two recordings (which it's never done).

The version's still in the System Info & test menu. Hold the info key for ~3 seconds. You may need to scroll down.

You have to admit, the software engineers do have a sense of humor, though. Ah ha!! Stupid user trying something they shouldn't, eh? We'll flip them over to channel 201 and make them watch the nice man teach them how to work their DirecTV equipment again since they obviously didn't get it the first time!! ;)

Ha! Great perspective - never even considered they might have done that on purpose:lol:

What does one have to do to get in touch with a tier 2 representative?

Thanks,
Ron:confused:

I believe that switching to channel 201 is a default program. It seems to occur when the software that controls that feature is not working properly. When they first started using interactive software on the YES channel, a similar problem occurred. Every time you hit the prev. button it would go the last channel viewed but when you hit it again, just like it's doing now with recorded programs, it would go to 201 instead of back to YES. Once they made corrections to the interactive software, the prev. feature worked just fine.

Thanks Ian for that Tier 2 number. I noticed my R15-500 was doing this exact same thing last night.
