Ahh day one it didnt record, no biggie. I rebboted it and it appeared OK. Today while watrching a twilight zoine episode recorded earlier it froze and appeared to reboot itself.

Now whats up with that?

Neither ogf my 508s have the latest software, perhaps that will help?

Perhaps you should have gotten a directivo.

:( If it wasnt for my liftetime sky angel subscription I would of/

At least my $99 508 has no strings attached. So if I do go to Dtivo I could sell off my 508 for a $200 profit:)

All these years I was a E pom pomer, for me it was MORE than watching TV. Sad to see how things are going downhill.....

It would not be a $200 profit when you have $99 plus shipping in it. You could not get $300 out of it being used. I sold a new 501 for $175 just to get rid of it. They kept going bad everytime I would go to have it replaced. It was not refurbished like the other ones either because I called and called to get a new one instead. I had $350 in it.

ISupposedly there was no shipping charge. It was BRAND new not a refurb. I looked at ebay preparing to peddle my DOPs and other legacy boxes. 508s are near $300 someone had a buy now of $350.

Honestly I just want it to work good and be dependable.....

Bob is it possible you have something else wrong in your system ( Dish, LNB's, cable or switches)? It seems that you have a lot of problems. I am fairly new to Dish, I have a 508 and a 721 with a dish 500 and second dish for locals with a 34 switch and I have had very few, if any problems for the last 4 months. Are you using Legacy LNB's and switches? Could that be it? Anyway good luck in getting them taken care of.

Well my signal strength is around 120 at core. Thanks to me sending tons of time peaking things. My 721 is on a SW64, but my NEW 508 is on a legacy twin.

Both have moments of instability. The PVRs are on a UPS. I am wondering about the UPS, and will monitor its voltage out. Anyone EVER have a UPS act flakey?

As I said before I dont like SW64s and plan to replace the legacy system with dishpro. I once added HBO package and watched ALL my receivers start blinking out. After a hour I in disquist pulled the plug on trhe whole mess, and went to bed. The next day everything was fine. E tech phone support said it was a rare SW64 caused problem. Contact at E confirmed that. Its very rare lucky me:(

This would elminate one dish, get everything to 3 slot service, minimize cable runs, and cut switch test time to nearly zero.

I will also relocate most of the receivers to the basement to neaten things up a bit. Right under our primary tv.

The DP problems were the same as EVERYONE else, My 721 lost input one flakey is common too. Metro has one thats bad as well. His input one quit altogether.

My 508 appear unusual. Honestly I JUST 5 minutes ago put it on the UPS. Perhaps that will do it.

Some things posted about my 721 were put in the YOUR THE ONLY ONE catergory. Later others reported what I had seen. I think one got scott.

Maybe others dont notice or care about such issues? I just post what I see.

Tonight its going to 5 degrees. Even if I had the dishpro stuff I wouldnt upgrade right now. Need $ and some warmer weather.

Oddly enough my other 508 on the SW64 has run flawlessely.

Oh well dishpro upgrade means I will replace ALL the sat cable, some of it must be near 6 years old. But its out of the weather. Hard to believe I have been a sub since nearly the beginning.

Bob have you checked all your grounding in your installation and for your entire house? Ground loops can go unnoticed very easily, and bad grounds on the power side of things can cause issues for switching power supplies.

I redid all my grounding in and around the house here recently. I made sure all my grounds were common and well bonded, and added another ground rod on the service entrance too. Before I cleaned up the old connection to the old ground rod and tied in the new one, I was showing some voltage between the two.

I can hook everything together now without any hums in my audio or buzz-bang/flashes. ;) Used to be I couldn't hook the computer to my stereo receiver without a major ground loop showing it's head. My tv picture is a little cleaner too.

Just something you might want to check, or have checked by someone, if you haven't already.

Good idea. First not freezing day I will take a look.

Bob, I have to agree with the others. You have tried several receivers and seem to have problems with them all. There is a good chance that you have something else wrong with your system. (If not, you are possibly one of the unluckiest people alive and have somehow managed to get several bad systems in a row) :)

For the past several months my 501 has been extremely stable, absolutely no problems at all.

Well my one 508 is rock solid as well. Several months old never had a problem Its on the SW64

DP, they are all dippy.:)

721 bad input one, common problem metro has one with same problem.

New 508, rebooted itself? Missed record? Who knows guess its me?

"Perhaps you should have gotten a directivo."

This is annoying and in no way helpful. Tiresome, too, since this is the canned response of so many D* subscribers. Some of us are happy with E*, and have had few problems to complain about.

"The PVRs are on a UPS. I am wondering about the UPS, and will monitor its voltage out. Anyone EVER have a UPS act flakey?"

Have you tried running these without a UPS? I don't know about E* equipment offhand, but some things don't work well on a UPS, since many of them don't put out a real analog sine wave.

I have had a 508 for about 7 months and have missed only one timer recording and had one spontaneous reboot... the missed timer was after the recent outage and the reboot was after playing around with a new Dish Home feature.

I originally got the UPS for my 721 after it flaked out a couple times. Line voltage here bounces constantly. My new 508 wasnt on the UPS yet. When it acted strange.

I DONT find the DTIVO comments offensive. Sad they are on target:(

As I said different boxes differing troubles. ALL the problemes can be explained EXCEPT the 508s.

DPs ALL DIPPY!

721 input one, multiple reports of that, most on systems using a SW64

508? Now thats a new mystery/ Hopefully more folks will NOT be reporting this....

OK, I give, what it a UPS? I looked in the acronyms list and it is not there....
Interesting thread though

Thanks, Matt

uninetruptible power supply. Keepsa the power on during outages. 721 reboot time is 4 minutes. So a quick glitch that kills power for 10 seconds results in nearl 5 MINUTES of missed show.

For many this will become uinaccetable espically in areas with frequent short outages like we have here.

My supply is good for at least 15 minutes.

I have seen a problem with one of the inputs off and on with the 721 as well and 3 bad 501's in a row too.

Bob Haller

Yeah my 721 input one is now and then also. Metros was trhe same way then ONE quit altogether. I wonder if the problem is software or hardware related?

Jacob S

I wonder the same thing too. It could be just some noticing the problem since some do not record using two tuners. It could also be a hardware issue since I have had a few 501's tuners do something similar to this.
