I currently have 2 3LNB dishes serving 4 DVRs including 1 HR-20. I also have a roof which DTV installers are not supposed to install the new dishes on.
My question is: Can I replace one of my 3 LNB dishes with another dish (which can fit on the same or similar mount as an existing 3 LNB dish) that can pick up the Ka satellites, and combine these two dishes with a switch to supply signals to all my DVRs? Anyone here done this?

Not really, The new capabilities of the 5 lnb dish require differnt LNBs (KA band)that are not availalbe seperately.

The J-mount has a larger foot and is 2 inches in diameter also for the 5 LNB dish, you can't use the existing mounts.

Just replace one of the dishes with a 5lnb, connect the 4 lines to a wb616, and hook all your recievers to it..

That would be the easiest solution, any other install location options besides the roof?

No good ones really. What I have is a tangled web of dishes, inside lines, outside lines, diplexers and DVRs from attic to basement. The ideal solution involves rewiring three rooms, replacing the one line to each with three (2 for DVR + 1 for OTA), but I'd like to avoid the hassle and expense of that if possible. The simplest workaround would be to replace both dishes with 5LNBs but one location won't support one.
I'll sort it out eventually but I'd like to examine all the possibilities before the custom installation charges begin.

Can anyone give me a link to where it says installers are not supposed to
install the new dish on roof.
I just talked to installer and told them I did not want the Slimline on the roof
and it woudn't fit where the oval 3 LBN is located.
He (the supervisor) said: "we mount most all dishes on the roof."
I foresee a problem
