have a 501 and a fairly new 508. Both have been working perfectly, and both upgraded to v168 day before yesterday.

However, yesterday morning my wife tried to watch a program on the 508 (Discovery Health, channel 189) and got the "satellite signal lost" page. Upon checking, I found that there is no signal whatsoever on transponder 6 from the satellite at 119 on the 508. However, the 501 is picking up the same transponder just fine, with a signal strength of 85. All other transponders appear to be operating normally.

I've unplugged and reset the 508, and run Check Switch, with no change. I thought about switching satellite input cables between the two receivers, but doing that at either end would entail more time than I have available at the moment.

My question: is the loss of a single transponder indicative of some sort of hardware problem with the 508? Or the switch? Or what?

Thanks,

DC

Your problem could be either cable or receiver changing locations is probably the best way of checking. If the problem moves with the receiver it is in the receiver if it stays at the location it is cable or LNBF/switch related. I would bet on the receiver as the culprit just losing 1 transponder, but I would do the substitution to be sure.
