View Full Version : Manual timer workaround causes another problem

Seeing as there are several programs that will not record because the "record first run only" feature doesn't work properly for shows like The Daily Show/Colbert Report as well as shows on USA and other networks that repeat the same episode several times per day, I've had to set manual timers for these. Now I have another problem...

All my manual timers will maintain the record icon after the program has finished recording. No big deal I thought, but these programs cannot be deleted and will remain in the menu and give this message when selecting them:

Another problem is that if I watch one of the shows that has the record icon stuck and then delete it, the unit will delete all other unwatched episodes in the same folder. Sometimes the same showing will appear twice on the menu (one without the record icon and one with it, both same time/channel).

This used to not be a problem until around a month or two ago. Aside from rebooting this thing everyday, is there anything else I can do? Is this a software bug or a bad unit?

Here's where I spare everyone a long-winded two paragraph rant about this being my third HR-20, the disappointing software performance, and the DTV CSRs being a complete waste of perfectly good blood and organs.

This definitely a weird one. I don't know if any of this will help but....

What software version is your unit running?

I have many SLs on USA, Scifi, & others where the episode is repeated several times a day. With the options set to 'First Run Only' my HR20 records properly every time. If I happen to cancel the first airing the unit will then default to the next airing on it's own. I have had issues where episodes are not labeled as repeats and it wants to record them all.

Since an RBR doesn't work seem to work, try turning the unit off and unplugging it for 30 min.

If all else fails try a Reset from the Setup menu. Caution - This will delete everything on your hard drive.

You might want to check out the CE forum. There is more info there that might help.

Kinda thin but it's something to start with.

Ya. That is a weird one. If, as Mike recommends, "reset everything" from the Setup menu doesn't ultimately cure this problem, you've uncovered a major bug that should be reported in the appropriate "issues" thread for whichever software version you are running.

Unfortunately, "reset everything" is a major PITA because you'll lose all your recordings and Series Links. "reset defaults" is less destructive and you might want to try that first.

There may also be a new CE (beta software) download tonight. You could wait and try that first. Check out this (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=98134) thread for more information. /steve
