Today was installation day for upgrading our Directv Tivo with a HR21 HD Dvr and slimline dish. They installation was scheduled for morning. Come noon no call, no show :( Five after noon I call Directv to find out an ETA. While I was on the phone I told the CS rep. that I was a little bit frustrated at having to pay $299 for the upgraded reciever and felt it was unfair to charge long time customers so much yet offer it for $99 to new customers. She apolegized and offered my free HD programing for a year saving me $119.00 dollars she also credited my account $100 for the inconvience of not having the installer here at the time promised. So now I don't feel cheated on the cost of the reciever. After waiting for 30 mins. she was finally able to get someone on the phone regarding the ETA. The installer said he thought it was an afternoon install and was on his way, he arrived 20 mins. later.
The install took 90 minutes. The installer was very friendly and answered all questions.
We are now enjoying the HD programing on our new 40" Samsung. Trying to get use to the remote and menus is a bit of a challenge. A little disappointed that it doesn't have duel buffers but found the work around here. Also trying to get use to the black bands on the side of SD programs on HD channels the picture quality makes up for that at least.
Oh BTW our installer was a real trouper he installed the dish at the same location as our old dish (at the base of the chimeny of a two story house) despite the high wind gusts! Our old dish was a victim of the winds and came blowing off the roof, fortunately, it wasn't the new dish or the installer.
