View Full Version : Possible to get HR20 "deals" without "official installation"?
Just wondering if anyone is able to wrestle an HR20 (and a slimjim... er, slimline dish) out of DTV without having to set an install date and wait for grumpy, unskilled workers to bore holes where holes should not be bored. I got my R15 shipped to an address I designated (was travelling at the time) and would like the same of the HR20. I simply refuse to allow their contractors on my roof or to touch my house - I run all my own cabling the way I like it and have mounted all my dishes since 1996 (and have never had a signal problem other than the usual rain-fade or snow-fade during very heavy precipitation events).
First thing, HR20's themselves are difficult to get from DTV, from reading here..
I would have liked to do the same thing you are attempting, I'm more than capable of a self install, and it would have been done already. They are scheduled Monday, almost 4 weeks after i ordered, if they show....
I'm not sure what you mean by "wrestle out of DTV"...
All the components needed for the install are available on the open market,
of course they have to be purchased.
If you are looking for a bargain from DTV themselves, I haven't read where they will ship items to a customer.
I optioned to have them provide the dish and multiswitch for free with the the free
install, rather than purchasing them. Downside is the contract extension...
The receiver cost is a wash anyway, since I didn't want to spend my time on the phone threatening falsely to cancel to get a price break.
I didn't mind paying their asking price, I'll just say that I am way ahead from years back....

If you want the dish for free, you need to let them install it. If you'd like to install it yourself or have a 3rd party installer you will need to buy one outright from a 3rd party vendor like solidsignal. Keep in mind the 5 LNB dishes require tighter aiming so you may want to find an installer you trust with the proper signal meter to aim it. The meters in the receivers aren't the bst for aiming.
Once you have the dish installed and the proper cabling installed to your DVR location you can deal with them for whatever deal you can get on a DVR and have them come out and just hook it up.

I got an HR20 yesterday for $99 from D* and they are drop shipping it to me. No installers are coming. I however have all the proper dishes installed already.
