View Full Version : Can i take one of me receivers to my summer home?
I have Directv with the HD dvr and was wondering if I could take the DVR with me to my cabin in the summer and use it there, so i dont have to set up a another account. Is this possible?
Thanks

No, you need to have a account for the second home.

I don't see why you couldn't....you obviously need to have a dish at your summer home. I've seen numerous folks at football tailgates with a spare dish mounted on a 2x4 on the roof of their car. They bring one of their DirecTV receivers and everything works fine. I don't see how that is any different than taking it to your summer home.
Having said that...I've never tried anything of the sort.

Sure you can, especially if it's only temporary. You will need the same dish of course, and you may not be able to get your local channels if you are out of the "spot" area for those locals.
So I would just need to mount a dish on my cabin and hook up my receiver and It
wouldnt cost me anymore money. That sounds great to me.

It is a violation of the terms of service to have a receiver at a location other than the one on the account.

(f) Phone Connections. For optimal performance of your Receiving Equipment, including ordering with your remote control or receiving certain Services, each of your receivers must be directly connected to the same land-based telephone line. If you add Service on additional TVs, you may purchase a separate subscription for each additional TV, or, if all your receivers are continuously connected to the same land-based telephone line, we can "mirror" programming to your additional TVs and charge you only the fee amount described in Section 2. You agree to provide true and accurate information about the location of your receivers. If we detect that any receiver is not regularly connected to a land-based telephone line, we may investigate and, if it is determined that the receiver is not at the location identified on your account, we may disconnect the receiver or charge you the full programming subscription price for the receiver.
People at football games and such are doing so on a temporary basis or have the coin to pony up for an RV account/receiver fee.

who is this guy..... the d* natzi
If you will not be using a receiver at your primary location while you are at the cabin, (no one home, etc.), and take the receiver with you to the cabin, you are essentially complying with the terms of service.
If you will be using service at both locations at the same time, you are clearly violating the terms of service.
From a technical point of view, it will work (other than possibly locals because of spot beam considerations).

I have one for my RV trailer and have never even known you needed to pay an 'RV fee'. We do pay the monthly receiver fee.
My parents fly south for the winter ME to FL. They take their reciever when they go. No issues.:)
Vacation homes are totally legal. I beleive its handled by the Movers Connection dept. Give D* a call and ask to talk to the installation dept. and/or the movers dept.

I called DTV customer service years ago before I was a subscriber and asked them this specific question. They said that it was no problem...
