Hello,

I wonder if anyone can help me with a problem.

After very high winds and rain on Friday here in San Francisco, we lost our 110 and 119 satellite. Here are the symptoms:
148 signal is okay (locked)
110 and 119 both say "Wrong Sat 148 W" with a signal strength of ~80.

I've done check switch many times (only says it sees 1 satellite) and rebooted the receiver (501) including pulling the card. I've also changed the SW21, without effect.

What I don't understand is how the 110/119 dish has any 148 signal since it is not pointing anywhere near 148. If I disconnect the 148 dish input into the SW21 then there is no signal for 110 or 119.

Could the bad weather have killed the LNB?

Dish Tech support were not much help, and the soonest they can get a tech out to look at the dish is the 14th January! (and "The Wire" returns tonight!!)

Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received.

Thanks,

Paul

My first thought that matches the symptoms: The storm made your 110/119 dish move away from where it was pointing. If you can access the dish, you might see whether you can repoint it.

Yes, thanks Michael I think that might have happened. I did repoint but perhaps not too carefully. I'm going up again now, using dishpointer.com as a guide. I will let you know whether that works.

With much reposition and check switch testing I was unable to get any signal from the dish that pointed to 110/119. In the end I repositioned the 148 dish to see the 119 bird, and can get a good signal with the channels.

Since I'm not totally cackhanded at positioning the dish, does this mean that the inability for the 110/119 dish to get any signal is due to a faulty LNB? Any other thoughts?

Thanks,

Paul

Hmm, from my limited experience, switches go bad more often than LNBs. You could swap inputs on the switch if you really want to.

Perhaps someone who's better with Dish troubleshooting will chime in soon.

Yes, that's what I thought. Not only did I switch inputs, I also has a spare SW21 (from a previous install), but that made no difference regarding the signal.

I'd be grateful for any other thoughts on whether the LNB could have been made to go bad due to high wind and rain.

Thanks!
