Live in Northern Indiana and had install of DTV set for this past Saturday morning. There was over a foot of snow on the roof of house when installer came. He told me that he was not allowed to get onto any roof due to the high likelyhood of falls, and that he was not able to receive good enough exposure to do the install at that time due to too many trees in the way. He said that I could wait until roof was clear of snow and then call back to reschedule. I noticed that next door neighbor has had the competitor's dish installed on much lower roof than my guy was looking at on Saturday. Do you think that I was being hoodoed and what should my next step be. I really wanted to get away from current cable situation, but need the service to work. He also said that I would be able to receive the satelite channels from one of the readings that he took, but not the local feeds. Next Step please.
... Is this a residence or a mutlidwelling unit?

It is a single family two story home.

I don't know why this is in the MDU forum.
Only partially "hoodoed." 99% of the time, if you can get "the satellite channels" (assuming he was referring to the main SD channels on the 101 satellite, you can get the HD locals on either the 99(b) or 103(a)'s, since they're only 2 degrees either side of 101. Perhaps he's talking about SD locals. What's the DMA of your locals?
Your next step? Your neighbor's roof probably does not see the same exact obstructions that your's does. Get the snow off your roof, both upper and lower, or mount the dish near the top of your house on a side wall. You can't expect DirecTV installers to deal with snow, so hook up your hot water to a jet sprayer and get out your ladder. :)
