I've only had DirecTV installed for the last 3 weeks or so, and this morning we are having a bit of slushy snow and for the first time ever (I used to have directv for about 10 years), my picture is actually breaking up!

Just a touch of snow and the picture goes? Is this a normal occurrence? I can't see the dish yet (pitch black out) but I assume this means it's sticking to the dish?

If the snow is actually sticking to the dish...
It probably would have happened to your old setup as well.

I have now been two complete Chicago winters with my AT9 and it handles most of the winter well... but slush/freezing snow on contact, is just a PITA for any DBS system.

I noticed last night during rain and wind that my 103c levels went down into the 70's (hope they come back) . Normally low 90's to mid 80's. At around what level do you start getting picture break-up? My OTA holds a picture even in the 40's but I bet the satellite doesn't do nearly so well.

I completely lost everything last night in the thunder storm across mid michigan. for about 15 mins I was at 0s for all 5 satellite locations on my HR20 and H20. KU signals came back first, then the KA signals a few minutes later.

First time that has happened, I had no issues during any of the snow storms

snow does stick to the dish, when it is clean and dry, go to an autoparts store and get some Rainx to spray on the dish

or get a heater tape to attach to the back of the dish

I've been with DIRECTV for a bunch of years and suffered through an occasional rain or snow fade until I put in a slim-line dish about a year ago. In spite of some serious weather, I have not experienced any fading since, except for one night about two weeks ago when maybe 8+ inches of snow piled up on most of the antenna (the second large snowfall in a week). That fade only effected HD channels (0’s were showing on signal levels), the SD channels and OTA were just fine. Everything was back to normal in the AM, even with maybe 5 inches of snow on some of the antenna dish and LNA assembly. This antenna/LNA has much more fade margin than the old round or oval dishes.
