I just successfully connected my PC to my HR20-700 via an ethernet cable. The set up and connection seemed to go perfectly. My screen on the T.V. says that the DVR is successfully connected to the internet.

Then I downloaded Tversity. That also seemed to download successfully but that's about as far as it goes.

I see no indication on the actual t.v. under setting that shows any indication of anything. What should I see on the t.v. end?

I'm just totally lost at this point. Can someone walk me through how I am suppose to view photos or listen to music?

Is there a manual somewhere that explains how Tversity works in simple terms?

I was also getting a message that said Tverity needs to be running. But to the best of my knowledge it was running.

Need help. Thx.

You can also refer to this thread - there is a lot of good info specific to the HR2x and networking in general. Also several links to threads discussing various servers including TVersity that folks are running on their setups.

Thanks for the advice. I've read through all the getting started info. and it seems like I have everything set up correctly. Obviously I don't.

Seems like I have successfully downloaded Tversity. I can view my photos that are stored in the library folder.

The problem I'm having is that I don't see anything in my Menu on the t.v. that says Music or Photo folder.

It does say that I am successfully connected to the internet. Just trying to find out why I'm not seeing the folders on the D* menu guide.

I'll keep trying. Thx.

Have you rebooted both the HR and the PC?

Have you rebooted both the HR and the PC?

I sure have. I'll do it again and see if I have any luck.

What should I be seeing on my D* menu? Should I be seeing a folder for music and a folder for photos.

I'm having no problem viewing my photos in my Tversity Library, just can't find my music and photo folders on the t.v.

Any other suggestions. I followed alot of what people had written in other posts.

I'll try rebooting one more time.

Thx.

Which version of the software are you running on the HR? If it's the National Release, you're looking for a menu item called "Music & Photos".

I'm running OX1Be software. It was downloaded on 11/13/07. Havn't recieved the new download yet.

Under information & setup it shows my Network connected and my Internet connected.

Shouldn't I still be looking for a Music & Photos folder even know I don't have the latest software. Hasn't it always been Music & Photos.

This is really frustrating and I'm far from a tech guy.

Where would the Music & Photos folder show up. I thought on the left side menu where the column starts with Info & Test, Network, etc.

Any thoughts?

Yes that's it. Try this: Reboot the HR20 with the network cable unplugged. Upon reboot, rerun the test so it fails. Connect the network cable back up. Give it a minute and run the test again to see if it passes. Give it another few minutes and try MUsic & Photos again.

I just did the reboot with the cable disconnected so failed. Now its asking if I want to re connect either Wired, Powerline, or Wireless.

I initially tried and successfully connected Wired but could not view my Music or Photo folder. Maybe I'll try Wireless and see if I have any luck.

I'd stay with wired if that's what it is. choosing the others likely won't work or won't make a difference.

Are you running the windows firewall on your laptop? It could be blocking your access to the Tversity server.

Make sure your windows firewall (if running) allows Tversity as an exception. Might Try a static IP.

Well I tried Wired one more time and followed the insructions that you gave me and everything connected to the network and internet properly but once again, no Music or Photo folder in the Menu Column.

I'm disconnecting again and this time I'll try selecting Wireless just for kicks and I'll let you know what happens.

I was told originally that since I'm connecting my Wireless Router in my office to the HR20 with an ethernet cable that I should connect it as Wired.

I'm still going to try connecting it as Wireless and I'll let you know what happens.

I'll be surprised if it connects or if it shows my Music and Photo folders.

This is correct. Have you tried the advice above? Check your Windows firewall?

Well I had no problem connecting to the Network & Internet selecting "Wirelss"

Does that make sense that you can connect Wired or Wireless?

In any event I'm still have no luck seeing anything in the Menu that says Music or Photos.

My firewall is open to accept incoming connections.

I have my tab set at Xbox 360, Transcoder set to "Always"

No idea whatsover.

Are you using the windows built in firewall or a 3rd party firewall? If it's 3rd party, check to make sure the windows one isn't turned on also, if it's just the windows firewall, turn it off completely for testing purposes.

I just spoke with someone at D* which is always a waste of time. They don't have a clue about networking.

One thing they did ask was if I had ViiV. Do I need ViiV to properly run the Tversity software.

I'm not sure how to get to my firewall to answer your questions on that. My wife opened the firewall for me last night. I could get there if you tell me how.

Thx. Appreciate your help.

No you don't need Viiv. Directv only advertises Viiv support, apps like Tversity allow you to get around that requirement.

Not knowing what type of firewall(s) and/OS you have installed I can't answer how you'd access your firewall.

Well that's good that I don't need Viiv. I had a feeling the D* tech didn't have a clue on that one.

Well, I'm still at a loss here. How do I go about finding out what firewall(s) and /OS are installed.

I wish I could give you that info so I could try to get my music & photo folder to appear.

Any suggestions.

"How do I go about finding out what firewall(s) and /OS are installed."

OS should be pretty straight forward, sometimes it's right on the start menu, if not, you can right click on my computer or computer and select properties.

I'm using a windows firewall and it is currently "on". I don't think I'm using any third party firewall.

Should I turn the windows firewall to off for test purposes to see if my Music or Photo folders appear?

I hate ask this but what is OS? Operating sytems?

I'll admit I'm way out of my league here but I'm dying to get this to work. Thx.

Yes turn it off, just ignore the warning it will give you. OS is operating system, you probably have Windows XP or Windows Vista.

Well I turned off the Window Firewall. The OS is Windows XP. I rebooted the HR20 but I'm not seeing the Music or Photo folder.

Since I didn't see anything happen I turned the firewall back on because I was nervouse about getting a virus. Should I have left it off longer.

Also went into firewall exceptions and some programs have a check mark next to them meaning, I believe they are being protected. Tried a few different settings but nothing.

Do I have to open a port? Or do you have any other suggestions.

I might have to wait untilt the weekend until my brother in law comes over. He's a networking computer guru, he'll be able to figure it out.

I don't get and I'm starting to get a headache.

mjones73

You can leave the firewall off for testing, you aren't going to get a virus from it being down.

We covered the basics, not sure what else to tell you. Hopefully your brother in law can figure it out for you.

How do you have TVERSity set up? Also which version?

open tversity, go to sharing tab and add the folders to be shared. then go to settings tab and under media playback set to auto detect then select start sharing button.

now redo network setup on HR-20 and see if that works.

if not go back to tversity and set media playback device to HR-20

I posted this over in the other thread - couple of other suggestions to check:

Check Services - these two need to be running
Universal Plug and Play (UPnP)
SSDP Discovery service

Check firewall(s)
You can either
grant access to the MediaServer.exe application (default install path is C:\Program Files\TVersity\Media Server\MediaServer.exe )
Or
open port 41952 ( the default - if you changed the port of course adjust as needed )

Open a browser on the TVersity box and attempt to launch the web version:
http://localhost:41952

If this works - you should be finished with the computer setup.

If you have another pc on the same network - try opening http://<ip_of_tversity_server>:41952 - if this works you can assume its working as expected.

If you still do not have menu on HR20 - I would start looking at your router - make sure it is not blocking 41952, I would make sure it is configured for multicasting (used by ssdp on port 1900).

Guys, thanks for all the help. I appreciate it but I'm going to give you all a break. Hopefully this weekend my brother in law will get to the bottom of my hooking up my network. He does this stuff for a living and understands it. I'm a chef and I'm way out of my league here trying to understand this stuff. I'll report back when it's up and running what I was doing wrong and why I couldn't see my Music and Photo folders. I'm sure it's something simple that I'm missing. Thx.
