I have a slimline installed on my roof... The installer 'stuffed' all the wires, from the dish leading in the basement, in my gutters... Is that ok? Won't that block the water from flowing to the downspout? Are there other alternatives?!

Call them out to fix it, shouldn't be running wires in the gutter.

Where should they be running them then????? The wires can't come straight down because the entry to the basement is about 10 feet away. This was from the original install. If they just dropped them down, the wires will be showing in the middle, side of my house.. Won't look pretty....

When I had wires run throught the gutters, they were attached to the supporting cross members with zip ties. that way they weren't at the bottom of the gutter. blocking the water and catching leaves.

I have used a secon downspout (customer provides or pays) to run the four(4) required cables from the dish on the roof down the two stories to the ground block & wb6x8. It looks clean but is not part o the standard installation.

Or you could quick tie them to the outside of the gutter; cheaper.

sounds like somone wanted to take a short cut running the wires...I'd call them back and have it done right!

I never really go up on the roof but when we were taking down a extension cord from the icicle lights we put up, thinkin we are pulling out the extension cord, we were pulling out wires from the gutter from the dish install.. They were twist tied but were in the gutter...

The new dish install was a few months ago....

What do i tell them? I want them out of the gutter and attached somehow to the outside of the gutter? Would that still look bad?

Now you are getting it!

As Mark pointed out someone should do it right. Who? DTV is not paying for hiding wire. They have already given a lot of free stuff. The installer? They do what is on the contract....a few quick ties..period. How about the homeowner?

Luckily my wires are buried from my pole in the backyard. But my OTA antenna is on my roof and the wires run straight down my siding to the hole that goes into the basement and more wires run up out of the basement up the siding into an upstairs closet. And the utility lines also run down the same area so they are all zip tied together.

I personally don't care about the wires but if you do then you'll have to get creative because there isn't much else you can do if you have your dish on the roof. In any case they should *not* be in the gutters. Talk about helping build up an ice damn in the winter let alone having them frozen in a block of ice half the winter. All that stress can't be good on the wires.

I don't know your particular situation but they would probably run them under the gutter or along the roof, they shouldn't be laying in the gutter itself. Now if you want a neat hidden install, you'll have to do it yourself or pay for it, the basic install doesn't cover things like that.

I'd have to disagree.
The basic install does cover doing it right, not sloppy and lazy.

It covers them getting the cable from point A to point B in the most easiest direct route possible. I do agree the install should be neat and clean, doesn't mean your not gonna have cabling running exposed on the outside of your house. It sounds like the installer tried to be neat and hide the wires in the gutter, that's sloppy and lazy...

Also, most coaxial cable, unless it has a so called "non-contaminating jacket," is not designed for either direct burial or long-term submersion in water. Fish 'em back up from the far end and quick-tie them to the gutter struts with the ties designed to withstand UV.

What are gutter struts?

Either the pieces along the top of the gutter that tie the outside edge to the roof -OR- the pieces that connect the downspout to the house.

I would call back to complain. Coax running inside gutters or downspouts is not acceptable. Unless of course as mentioned, that you're specifically adding downspout as a conduit for the coax.
