View Full Version : CD burning

11-20-01, 10:01 PM
I burnt a song and it won't let me do another on a cd-r.
What the hell is going on? I assume that I have to burn an entire CD and not song by song? If so then that's awful.

If you are burning a CD to be played in any CD player, it must be "finalized". What this means is that the disc is closed and a table of contents is created. No other songs can be added to the CD.

If you are burning a CD to be played in your computer, it does not need to be closed and you can add songs as needed just like an data formatted CD. These files can be MP3's, WAV's or any other sound format.

Thanks. So I need to burn all 75-80 M at one time. Can I write backup programs to it since there is only one song on it?

11-21-01, 01:14 PM
If you get a message asking you to finalize and you say no you can add or delete any songs/files you want at a later time, but you cant play it (if audio).

Depending on which one, it may give you good hints on how to make the CD the way you want to.

Even though Roxio's CD Creator is over priced, they have very good instructions, whereas a shareware product may not be very verbose in the instructions they give.

I was using Windows Media Player.

11-24-01, 10:12 PM
once you finalize it that's it. and you can't play it until it's finalized. And you must write in TAO mode to not finalize it automatically. So, just do the whole thing at once

Roxio's EZ CD Creater Platinum is definitely the way to go. It's easy to use and works great. You can find some pretty hefty rebates if you buy the product so it wouldn't be too expensive.

11-25-01, 11:47 AM
I had a hard time justifying the purchase even with the rebates. that was until I got a new burner that was not recognized by v3.x EZ CD software. It came with some lame HP burner software that didn't even allow usage of ISO CD Images, which I need. Figured my familiarity with EZ CD was the deciding factor to get it, as I get older I am starting to hate change :D

But after I got 5.0 Platinum I ended up using the stuff I had no previous need for,MP3s, Photo CDs, etc. Purchase easily justified in hindsight.

I have a lame CD burning program. Cequaderants Just Burn. I wish I had Roxio, but Just Burn, will do.

Steve, why do you wish you had Roxio? Nero: Burning Rom rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

11-27-01, 04:02 AM
Iv seen it used on TechtV and a buch of my friends have it and Iv head nothing but posiative feedback. It seems like Roxio comes with the mojority of burners out there.

What do you watch on TechTV? On The Screen Savers they agree with me - Nero: Burning Rom all the way! Nero: Burning Rom is by far the best Cd burning app on the market! Try the demo at www.nero.com - You'll see it's worth the money!

Plus, don't listen to your friends. I'm willing to bet that with you as the exception, I'm the youngest person on here. And I learned long ago my friends are full of crud.

EZ CD has recieved alot of praise on the old Call For Help. I never got to catch the old screen savors that much only the repeats on the weekends since a lot of days at 9PM is was at school doing lighting and sound for school concerts and plays and stuff (Im in the A/V club) I havent watched Techtv much since the new format so I dont know what theyre recommending now. I'll check out Nero, anything is better then the program I have now.

On a related note- I have a slight problem with buring CDs. When I want to burn MP3 that Iv downloaded on CDs, the program wont let drag and drop some of the files into the 'drag audio tracks' window from the 'source' window. I have to record the songs from my sound card, and the song gets saved as a WAV file then I can drag and drop it. This only happens on a few select songs like Korn- Make Me Bad, AAF-Smooth Criminal and Metallica- Ride the Lightning. Any ideas??? Thanks

A lot of burning software isn't good with MP3s - they don't like uncommon MP3 formats (like VBR). Nero: Burning ROM does fine (actually I'd argue better than my MP3 player software), and I highly reccomend this. Otherwise use CDex to properly convert them to PCM WAVs ( cdex.n3.net/ (http://cdex.n3.net/) ) - it does a great job, and is also a great ripping program (it's main purpose) and it's free.

Thanks Aaron, I already have CDex, so Im one steap ahead of the game. I ripped some songs on CDs, that I actually paid for and burned the MP3 files as a data cd. My new (and first real) DVD player (PhilipsDVD712) is able to play MP3 data cds. :)

To be honest, Reagan. I'm not quite married yet (engaged) (the kids I talk about in my posts - like how the kids like ABC Family - are kids I take care of often - nephews and nieces:) with older parents:) ). But BARELY Reagan:) Like JUST BARELY. Right now I'm in college, and also working in internet design and networking for a small company. That's just a job to make money for college, I am studying to be an elementary school teacher.

Johnson for me. Anyone want to help me cross the street :D

You feel old! When I was born Ike was early in his first term. My gosh, it just hit me that you guys weren't even alive when the Beatle's broke up, much less came to the US and appeared on Ed Sullivan, or even when Lennon was shot. I don't think I'll bother getting up tomorrow morning.

12-03-01, 09:48 AM
But it would have to be downhill or else forget it :p

I knew I was getting old when "I didn't like The new music the kids were listening to" or the first time I made that noise my father used to make when getting out of a chair after a few hours of sitting. :D

Being born in the Truman admin I have a fondness for the "classics":
Common, well known bands:
The Who (just about anything)
Beatles (of course)
Beach Boys (selectively)
The Byrds
Tommy James (with and without the Shondells)
Moody Blues (selectively)
Hollies
Four Seasons (for their doo wop derived harmonies)
Motown Early style bands (too numerous to mention) to gain an appreciation of soul and R&B music.
A bit more obscure:
Love - although a rather obscure band, one with great potential if they had played the "game". (specifically the self titled album, "Da Capo" and "Forever Changes") The latter album consistantly makes critic's top 10 list of the BEST RnR recordings of all time. The first rock band signed to Electra (pre Doors)
Jay and the Americans (Great vocal arrangements)
Gene Pitney
Blind Faith (first "Supergroup") - Clapton
Derik and the Dominos - Clapton

VERY obscure:
Gypsy (Self Titled and "In the Garden") Great harmonies, great writting/arrangements, great guitar and keys. Turned down "Long Tall Woman in a Black Dress" to do their own music on their first album.

Download numerous versions of the song "Hey Joe" to see what can be done with one song in hundreds of versions. Especially try to find the version by The Stillroven (probably the best version). This song was done by Hendrix, Love, Byrds, Music Machine, Stillroven, Dylan, Dave Mathews, Deep Purple, Led Zep and too many others to mention including probably every local band in the '60's.

The above is just a starter for the beginner's course. There will be a test.

RKing, your post reminded me of how often I'll be in the car with my kids, listening to one of "their" stations, and I'll start singing with the song on the radio. "Dad, how in the world do you know that song?" Its amazing how many covers of the old songs are being done.

someone help i cant burn mp3 cds

12-28-01, 11:40 AM
Burn them as DATA cd's, not MUSIC cd's. This is a very common error. I typically get over 200 songs on a cd this way. Now that I have changed over to a Starband 360 modem though, Morpheus no longer works, so it looks like my downloading and burning days are over for a while.

12-28-01, 06:09 PM
My DVD player can read MP3 CDs and CD-RWs, so I burn all my MP3s and a CD-RW then after I download a few more songs Ill reformat the CD-RW and add the new songs.

Well doesn anyone remember Harry Truman.

I turned 55 the day after Christams. Now i can order from the "old folks" menu at many restaurants.

I bought EZ-CD 5.0 Platinum just after it came out and it didn't work with Win2K. there wasn nothing but conatant complaining about it on the Roxio USENET group. The poor guy who was moderator was contantly being raked over the coals. However the Roxio version which are shipped with Yamaha drives seem to work fine with Win2K so that is what I use at home and at work. I have bought about a dozen drives, but noticed that the last one I bought now uses Nero instead of Roxio.

What a great pun Nero is: It plays while ROM burns!
