View Full Version : Is my Sony HD-200 Fried?

I have a Sony HD-200 that I have had for years. I had a recent power outage and now it seems that the receiver cannot find the clock off the satellite to create the channel guide. That in turn means no D* programming. All of my Sat strengths are in the high 80's - 90's for Sat 101. I tried the clean NVRAM trick by pressing left-right and select at the same time and of course unplugging the receiver off overnight. I tried to "autoset" the clock with no avail. The receiver has no problem with OTA. But when I try to bring up the channel guide, it tells me that the local time is not set.

I really don't want to get a new H21 since I don't have HD Locals here and probably will not any time soon. I am one of those who get SD Locals from the 72.5 sat.

Thanks

Welcome to DBSTalk!

Nice troubleshooting. I agree with your assessment that it's fried. Have you called DirecTV? You might be able to "upgrade" to an H20/H21 Receiver or HR20/HR21 HD DVR for free, or cheap. You can also get a new 5-LNB dish at the same time for free and receive the new national HD channels.

It may not be fried. There are many people reporting problems with older receivers, they cannot bring them back online when they have been switched off. I have a suspicion DirecTV is working on "channels I get" and the changes have affected the older receivers. We may know more after the weekend.

Did you ever have any success in dealing with this issue? I have the same unit and have experienced the exact same symptoms as of last week, with no resolution.

Thanks,
Michael

No success as of yet. I might be forced to get a H21.

Try another reboot. In this thread (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=116539), another poster got his working. It does seem to be related to a recent problem with LG made receivers, among others.

DirecTV modified the data stream again last night and everyone else is reporting that a reboot brought their receiver back on line.
