while I was reading about the upcoming Remote Bookie feature for the DVRs, I had a thought...
How hard can it be to incorporte some sort of email checking system?
For example, I can go to DirecTV's website and enter my email address/password and the DirecTV system will periodically check to see if I have any new email. If a new email arrives, it can send it, via satellite, down to my DVRs. I can then read the email on my TV screen.
I know I'll get a lot of use for it... :)

Well if this feature ever does come to fruition, I hope that it's something that I can turn the heck off! When I'm watching a movie, I am doing so as a break from work (which invovles a lot of email)! I definitely do NOT want to have it break into my home theater time!

Please tell me this is supposed to be humor. The lack of smilies in your post really concerns me.
... The ability to put POP3 into the receiver is possible... But with people currently having problems with caller id, I doubt POP3 will ever become reality!

Don't hold your breath for this feature.

I don't expect the feature but I would like it. Set up a POP3 account and then just have the envelope become active in the status bar to indicate a message is there. Nothing intrusive, just a configurable option to use it or not use it.
I doubt DirecTv wants to get into the business of troubleshooting Joe Sixpack's POP3 settings though.

Spam in HD?
for the entire year of 2007, I only received 8 spam emails, out of 1400+ emails in my mailbox.(personal emails only) those 8 spam messages were caught by the spam filter and placed in the spam folder...
By saying this, I'm expcting to see hundreds of spam emails in 2008! :D
