View Full Version : Problem recording...FNL
I would like to know if anyone had a problem with their recording/viewing of, " Friday Night Lights " last night on 01/11/08? I have a Season pass set for it and when I went to the recording it only recorded 34 minutes of the show. In other words, the recording began at 9:26pm ET. I checked the season pass and verified it has been set the way it always is; to start and stop on time. The next recording of, " Las Vegas " seems to have recorded from 10pm-11pm. As far as I know there was no issues with power or anything of the like and it was the only show scheduled to record in that time bracket.
I have the latest National Release version on my HR21 and I live in the South Florida area.
If anybody had this issue or a similar issue then please post in regards to it and thank you for your time.

No problems here. That's typically a symptom that your DVR was rebooting during that time, though. Is your DVR powered by a UPS?

I have it plugged into my APC UPS that my PC uses as well. I was tired of having these SOuth Florida power glitches that make Directv dvr's reset all of the time. Anyways, it is so that's not the reason; any other suggestions? Here is what has happened so far:
I have had some major software problems with the HR21-700 using the National Release software 0x193.
1. I had set up a one time recording of The View and when I went to play it, it was a black blank screen.
2. I have a Season Pass set up for Friday Night Lights. When I went to play it on 01/11/08 the dvr had only recorded the last 34 minutes of the show.
3. I had set up a one time recording of the Seahawks vs. The Packers for yesterday 01/12/08. The game was not in My Playlist. Under History it stated that This episode was partially recorded because it became unavailable.
4. On Sat. 01/12/08 my dvr had recorded The Celebrity Apprentice although it is set up for first runs only which are only on Thursdays.
5. Under the To Do List, there was a recording set up for The Surreal Life although I had never set it up to record it.
I had even re-downloaded the 0x193 update but it made no difference. My harddrive is only half full. I am the only one who uses this dvr. There were no weather issues or power issues that would result in these problems.
Directv may give you the best bang for your buck, but if they offer such an unreliable product then it doesn't seem to be worth the stress that they put you through.
We all know they swapping dvr's will not make a difference when this is all software related. The HR20's are so much more stable and reliable now then the HR21's!! They may look real pretty on the outside but they are dumb as nails on the inside!!
This is deja vu.....all the issues we had with the first HR20-700 from Sept. '06 - March '07!! Can't Directv get their act together already??!!

I will say, the wife and I recorded "GhostWhisperer" from 8 - 9 PM on Friday night on our HR21. We live in South Florida too.
The HR21 recorded the show in two "incomplete" parts. The first 22 minutes were recorded, but unwatchable. And then the final 27 minutes were recorded separately and viewable. So, besides the unwatchable first 22 minutes, there is an 11 minute gap in the middle. (Almost like the unit rebooted itself and with the marathon that is the rebooting process of the HR21, that seems entirely possible.)
We have an older unit in the bedroom that my wife was watching between 9 & 10 on Friday night and she reported that the unit spontaneously rebooted for no reason too.
So long story short...I don't know. But there was some funky issues with DirecTV down here in South Florida on Friday.
