Does anyone know if I can connect the HR20 to the internet via a 2wire 1000hw router, used a network adaptor? I use a Linksys wrt54g router. Thanks

Not quite sure what you're doing but the HR20 can certainly be hard wired directly to a router. In fact that is probably the fastest and most reliable connection.
Mine is wired directly to a $30 8 port switch which itself is hard wired to my router upstairs. The switch then allows me to plug in up to 7 more networked devices in my home theater such as any of the modern game systems, HD DVD player, etc.
Not sure how you have things connected, but 1000HW only has one 10/100 Ethernet port so it seems like you should connect the HR20 to the Linksys.
The HomePortal 1000HW (http://www.2wire.com/index.php?p=8) residential gateway includes an integrated ADSL modem, a high-performance router, 1-port 10/100 Ethernet switch, a professional grade firewall and an integrated 802.11b access point. HomePortal 1800HW (http://www.2wire.com/index.php?p=8) residential gateway includes the same features but offers a 4-port 10/100 Ethernet switch.

Sorry, I should have given more background info. I recently switched to cable broadband and the 1000HW is a leftover from previous DSL service. So in the office. I have the cable modem-> Linksys wrt54g router(recently given to me) -> office computer. I also have a laptop that connects wirelessly via the linksys.
It is not possible to hard wire the HR20 due to its location. I am a home network noob and am thinking that I might be able to utilize the leftover 1000HW to wirelessly connect to the linksys and get the HR20 online somehow. Is this possible? and if so any advice is appreciated.
Thanks

the only way it would work is if it can be configured to act as a wireless bridge. per your user manual, log into the router and see what options you have. i don't think you'll have any luck with this, but good luck!

you can use a wrt56g as a wireless bridge, but not with the linksys firmware you have to install new firmware. In fact I just did it this weekend to hookup my HR20, HD DVD and bluray player to my wireless network.
This site (http://dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/index.php) has the firmware. You have to be carefull because the wrt54g has several different version (the version number can bee seen on the bottom of the router) and that will dictate what firmware you can load.
anyway it does take some work, but I got it running and it works great!

Thanks for the link. I am going to give it a shot and see what happens.
