Strange one

A guy at work has a new dell with XP.  Problem started about 2 weeks ago.  The dial up connection works, and the machine is assigned an IP address.  However, no internet apps work.  He spent over two hours with his isp's tech people with no success.  I looked at it today, and it almost seems like a firewall is on, but it is not.  Any thoughts?

Bad subnet? Have him change his subnet to a full class C, 255.255.255.0 and see if he works now. :)

Go into Internet Options and click on the Connections tab. Click on the settings button and make sure that nothing is checked. Then, click on the LAN Settings button, and again, make sure nothing is checked.

Sometimes, the "Automatically Detect Settings" doesn't work as expected, even when you are using a dial-up, not a LAN, connection.
