I just got the mailing that my rates were going up, a free pay per view, and a red insert that showed the channel lineup. On the back it states in a box below the areas it already has that
Planned Cities for Launch
Ancorage, Chico-Redding, Cedar Rapids, Tyler, Monterey, Huntsville, Ft. Myers, and Sioux Falls.
I'm in Monterey, and this is SUPER news as we don't even have an ABC station. There are a couple of digital stations, but I don't pick them up.
However, the real DMA is Salinas-Monterey. Salinas is very large, while Monterey is not so big. So that got me to thinking. Was this some marketing ploy, or are they really planning on adding my area?
Can anyone confirm they see the same thing?
Thanx,
Mike

hey..thanks for that post :)
Got an e-mail that says Earthlink DSL is now available in my area. This city list looks all too familiar (Dish Network locals). I noticed in this list is Monterey, CA. Seems like this list is too similar to Dish. How many cities are on this list that are coming soon to Dish???

Milwaukee is on the list, and I have no indication that it will ever be on dish.

No West Palm Beach, a city that does have locals. On the dealer chat yesterday Charlie said the roll out cities would roughly be the same as local to local cities with some exceptions.
My city Albany, NY was listed for DSL, but E* doesn't offer locals. I'm not counting on them either. Roadrunner cable internet is very highly used here and TW makes you pay extra if you don't have cable with them. Strike 2 is no YES for E*. That's why I was hoping for a merger :)

I hear you about Milwaukee.
Did you get any waivers for the stations in Milwaukee? I applied for waivers from all four stations (4, 6, 12, and 58) and only channel 12 approved my waiver. Channel 12 is the only channel of the four I can get an almost perfect picture from OTA. I'll take what I can get though.

Hi Mike,
DISH offers local channels now for Des Moines, IA and Omaha, NE; neither one are on the list.

Well..I guess the list is similar, not exact. It was late when I posted and I was too lazy to compare one list to the other. BTW Mike, I used to live in Salinas myself. I can't believe a town of over 100,000 could have such a crappy cable system. I was told, in 1997 that an upgrade was forthcoming but opted for DirecTV. I've since moved to Dish and notice that the same 43 channels are available through AT&T/TSI/MPTV cable. Seems the system is bought once every three years and sold with no upgrades. Even Watsonville (with Charter Comm) has a better system than Salinas. Good luck getting locals on Dish.

Columbia/Jefferson City, MO is on the list for DSL, but E* doesn't have locals for them. Last I heard, it'll be a while before locals are offered since they're #139 on the DMA list. Interesting though. :)

Salinas like Monterey has just done is going through some local city revamp thing. They are bartering for the cable company to lay new fiber at little or no cost to the city. I only know a little about it because I slightly involved in it. Once the infrastructure is in place we may see some changes in the cable system. I'm actually in seaside, and the only TWO stations I can really get are 8, and 11. They are the same thing. I have a dish 6000 ( high deff) and my 8vsb can't pick up any signals from salinas.
It KILLS me to hear people complain about getting their locals when the can actually GET them off the air. I used to get that cable life line. It was just the basic locals for 12 or 13 a month, but since they went digital, I don't think it is available any more.
Well, I WILL be holding my breath.
Funny with no ABC in our area, if it wasn't for dish, I'd miss the superbowl. No chance of seeing it in High Deffinition.
I wonder, if Dish were to offer locals in Salinas/Monterey, would they give you channel 7 from San Francisco (like the cable company does) or a distant ABC that you'd have to pay extra for?
