Been a while since I last posted, hope everyone here had a wonderful holidy. Xmas was good to my house: we upgraded our 2005 40" Sony first generation XBR LCD to a 46" XBR5, which is due to arrive this week. We are excited to see how HD DVDs look in true 1080p and testing out the improved refresh rate technology in sports programming, but I'm wondering if I should expect any improvement in the resolution of OTA channels received on my HR20-700.

I know there are only a few sporting events broadcast in 1080p, but as we keep the HR20 set to 720p/Native Off, does that output setting apply only to the SAT channels or does it apply to OTA as well? Thanks in advance!

It applies to all channels if you have it set to output everything at 720p. I hope you ment 1080i also, nothing is broadcast in 1080p yet.

Actually nothing is broadcast in 1080p. That's only available from HiDef DVDs.

The typical broadcast resolutions are 720p (ABC, Fox) and 1080i (NBC, CBS).

Your HR20 settings apply to any source ... satellite and off-air.

1080p would look great for sports, but since it isn't broadcast at that resolution, 720p is the next best.
