View Full Version : Defaulting dish tv to dvi input
I have the Dish HD 36" tv and since dish came out and installed my DVR, the TV doesn't turn on to the right input. The technician orginally hooked up the DVR to the S-video input. WHen you turn the TV on it doesn't default to the DVI inout, but to the regular channel option thing. I've since changed the DVR to the DVI (SMDI to DVI cable) input. Now I want the TV to dafult back to the DVI input like it used to when I had my 811. Any clues how to change the TV to turn on to the DVI input?

Look in the manual for the TV?
It's not in there. And I can't find any options in the menu on the TV. I know it can be done! As it was that way before the DVR.
On the tv: Press menu; Setup; Preferences; Special Features; Check Auto On; Initial Channel - scroll till desired channel/input shows, then exit.
Actually it was setup that way. I had to turn the auto tuning off and now it stays on the DVI input. Thanks for the help!!
Ok, it didn't work. What else is there I can try? Do I need to have the TV on a certain channel for it to turn on, on the DVI input? I've tried Garys' option but nothing is working. It still turns on on the channels.

Can you go to Setup and delete the tv channel that it is defaulting to?

You haven't said what make and model the TV is. That could be very helpful.
You haven't said what make and model the TV is. That could be very helpful. It sounds like the Dish (Thomson) HD34 TV.
The secret to success with mine was to press the SAT button to turn on both my 921 and my HD34. I'm guessing that this doesn't work with the newer remotes.
If I turned the power on and off manually, the HD34 always came up in the mode that I left it in. Is there any chance that someone is unplugging or cutting off power to the display?
I have the Dish 42" model, and it works with my 622.
yes, it's the Dish 34in HD TV. I use the Dish remote to turn it on and off. I don't think anyone could be 'cutting' the power to the TV. The Cables are out of reach in the back. This wasn't happening before when I had my 811.
Currently when I power it on, it always comes up to channel 20 (which in nothing here so I get a blue screen)
So is it possible that the 722 remote is somehow reseting the TV when I use the remote to power it off and on???
UPDATE: It was the remote causing the problem!! I reprogramed it to code 742 (we had that written in the old 811 book) and now the tv works like it should.
