View Full Version : Used up all 4 outputs from new dish?

In the last few months, I have had the new OVAL dish installed for our locals out of Buffalo, NY. With the built in 4 output switch built in, I have added 2 HDVR's, with each needing 2 inputs. The end result is that I have used up all four outputs from the 3 LNB dish.
My question is, if I want to have more outputs for the rest of the house, can I just add a multi-switch to a few of the existing outputs without any further equipment?
I guess, what I am asking is "Can you put a multi-switch on the outputs of a multi-switch"?

Depends on what type of lnbf you have, if it's a dishpro lnbf, then yes, you can just get a dishpro 34 switch and connect more receivers, if not, then there really is not way to do it without replacing the existing lnbf you have now.
Admin note: Edited to remove java script & html tags

Just wanted to pop in and say welcome to another fellow WNYer, Baldodome. I see your up there in the Tonawandas. So Welcome to DBSTalk :hi: Also welcome lgnaclo and thanks for joining us! Just wondering, did you type up you post in another program and then paste it into the DBSTalk reply field? That may explain why there were html tags, but the java's got me.

Uh, hold on a sec - you CAN'T just throw on ANY 5x8 switch behind an oval dish w/the integrated switch. You MUST use one of the newer 5 (or4) x 8 switches that send 22khz on the Sat B inputs, otherwise he'll NEVER see 110/119.
The only 5x8 switch that I know of being compatable is the Eagle Aspen S-4180-GX. (note they have an older model that does not have the "GX" suffix at the end - it will NOT work)
A couple of 4x8 switches that are compatable are the JVI 35-TRDTV48 & the Zinwell SAM-4803. (D* does not "offically" support 5x8 switches for some reason)

I've never heard an explanation of why DirecTV OEM multisat antennas and multiswitches do not have off-air antenna inputs. Maybe it is because they don't want to undermine the local channel sales.
Last week I went to install a residential UHF antenna for a customer who said he already had one but it "didn't work". But when I got up on the roof, I discovered that his installer had only diplexed his UHF antenna into one of the four receiver leads coming out of the Terk S25 with the integrated multiswitch, and, unfortunately for this customer, it was not diplexed into the lead that went to the HDTV receiver. I'll bet that this happens a lot.
