I live in Marietta, and service has been out for about an hour. Was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problem. I know the 1/2 inch blizzard outside might be the culprit but was curious if anyone else in the area had the same issue. On signal strength test the only hit I get is 31% on transponder 18, sat 101.

I'm out on a lot of channels, I'm located halfway between Knoxville and Chattanooga, not sure how long it's been out, I only switched to live at 9:00 pm and it was out on USA-HD, SciFi-HD, etc.

Could half an inch of slushy snow really degrade my signal completely?

totally

when the weather is clear, you can spray the dish with rainx which may make the snow slide off in future.

I live in Woodstock and it just went out also. It looks like we will need to wait for the sun to shine.

I just went outside and wiped the snow off and it's back now, so it was definitely the same 1/2" of snow that was the problem, it is total slush, mostly water. The way the dish is positioned, it's gonna catch it every time, I'll have to look into this spray for the dish.

Numbers on 101 after wiping the dish off:
95 98 94 58 93 100 94 99
93 98 93 40 95 100 93 100
94 98 93 46 95 100 95 100
94 95 92 96 95 100 93 100

No issues here in Stone Mountain. All signal strengths are unaffected by the snow.

It can be found at most auto parts stores, it is expensive. you just need a tiny bit. try WD40 first (light spray) WD means Water Displacing by the way

We received about an inch of snow. It just started turning into freezing rain when it went out. I made a mistake in restarting the HR20. Now it is stuck waiting to download the Program Guide. I am hoping that I can soon get to the recorded content. My son has a HR10 and it locked up so he restarted it. The HR10 at least timed out so he is now watching his recorded content.

Get out the garden hose and hit it. If the wind is not too bad, most of the water should run off before it freezes.

Oh my freaking side, this got me too, problem is my dis is on the tipy top corner of the second story and I sure as heck wasnt gonna get out a ladder so I hit it with a hose as best I could to try to defrsot it some and it worked. Is there any other soloution? I cant believe that less than 1/2 inch of ice can totall ruin reception like that!!!

My dish is on the roof about 30 feet in the air. Plus the hose has been put up for the winter (and drought).

Plus the hose has been put up for the winter (and drought).Yeah I had mine coiled on the side of the hosue since the watering ban started, so that wasnt an issue but to watch this idiot out there spraying water 30 feet in the air, in the snow, in pajamas with a million candle power spotlight, with sleet coming down must have been hilarious if anyone was watching. Hopefully nobody called the cops for my illegal use of water.

I'm ok near Northlake Mall, except for most of my MPEG-2 channels being out.

Just shout back at them "PRIORITIES MAN!!":D

When things dry out, get up there with some of the suggested solutions like WD40, Pam, rain-x, or move down here and only have to worry about droppings from birds that had the good sense to fly south.;)

Mine is out in Alpharetta, but I can't do anything to clean the dish off through slingbox. I was able to get some channels earlier, but now everything is gone.

Mine went out like yours last night (mainly MPEG4's) locking up the box. Could not reset the thing ... it kept searching for satellite to acquire guide data. Eventually unplugged it overnight and this morning it restarted fine, however, still having trouble with the MPEG4 locals.

I'm also in Marietta and had the same thing. I was able to get non-HD locals until
the rain washed the snow off. Sounds like I need to get the Rain-X out when the
weather clears.

my service is still out this morning...I cant get to the dish, but can see it still has some snow on it...do I need to reset to get my service back or wait out for the snow to melt off the dish today?...Mine is pretty high on the roof so not very easy to get to...I do not get any channels at all..neither the HD's or SDs....all I get is message 771 searching for signal message...any suggestions?

If your hose isn't frozen and the water police aren't around, try washing the snow
off with water.

Is the issue definitely a weather related issue? Is everyone's service back on now? I am at work now, so cant check to see if service is back yet

The little bit of snow/slush/ice that we got in the Metro Atlanta Area last night always creates a great deal of laughter on my part.

I do admit though, that this is the first weather of this type where I have lived somewhere that the dish wasn't at ground level...

I realize that to others parts of the country, we look wacky... Kenneth Houskamp would die laughing if he could see what happens here with less than an inch of snow.

It's been so long since I had this particular problem here that I had to laugh when I couldn't just go outside and toss a bucket of hot water on the dish. I got caught up on my recorded shows last night, did a little reading and looked at how pretty it was outside...

One good thing... it will definitely help with the extremely serious water problem here. I am concerned with the possibility of heavier snow this weekend with low's in the 20's.. I may need a power washer...

Mine came back on during the night. I had to restart the HR20 as suggested by the on screen message when it was stuck acquiring the program guide data.

No issues.

Do what they do up north. Steal your kids' super soaker and fill it with warm water. Works great if you can't reach it conveniently. Or even if you can; it's more fun than using a broom.

I sprayed some RainX on there today for the coming snow tomorrow. Hopefully this trick from the people who live up north will work.
