The way I have always understood MRV to work is streaming from one to another and not actually copying the show from one DVR to another. Least that is how the FIOS works with MVR. Now if DirecTV allows us to copy from one to another through MVR that was be a huge plus. Especially for failing machines.

There has been no confirmation that MRV is going to allow for copying of shows. No one knows.

Right, MRV is not copying, more like streaming, but I'm not sure if the OP was talking about copying, or just streaming (which could give a similar effect, minus the backup for a failing dvr)

it would be nice for those of us using EXTERNAL drives if we could connect the drive to a different Receiver and still have access to our shows/movies. I mean I don't see why D* can't make this happen. Obviously I see the copyright issues but they could make it so that we can activate the drive on the new DVR and let the shows be accessible then they could control the process a bit. I don't know but I think there should be a way to do this!
